🚧 Work in progress 🚧

Well well well…I was planning on having lots of spooky sketches done in time for Halloween but alas I didn’t…also spooky is kind of an all year round thing in my world soooo there will still be some stuff coming! 🦇🦇🦇

Anyways this is a WIP of what I’ve been calling my version of Barbie’s Dreamhouse…it’s a old abandoned house in Leazes Park in Newcastle and it’s covered in graffiti and surrounded by a rickety fence. I don’t know much of the story of it/what it was/why it’s the way it is but something drew me to it and i definitely felt compelled to draw it! 👻 I’ll definitely do some digging in the ol’ Newcatle history Facebook groups to find some more info!!! 🏚🏚🏚 All of the gaps are where I may or may not add the graffiti…currently undecided but might make it into an animated image for the best of both worlds 🤔🤔🤔

Now drawing buildings…not really my thing!…but I’m really enjoying this and it’s given me a couple of ideas about a future zine project…👀

Halloween was a blast!

I spent hours of my time sewing up this pink dress to wear it for a few hours because I was adamant I was going to be Villanelle for Halloween! I wish I’d managed to get some better quality pics but alas the weather was dark and cloudy and the guests were arriving imminently…pic one def shows how proud of myself I felt getting it done and on with makeup and hair 🎃🎃🎃

Materials all in cost me about £20 but who knows how much actual time went into it. Pleating and shirring this much material (it was organza which is just a paaaiin to work with) was quite the task but it definitely paid off for the final result…a good amount of the party goers recognised the costume so I’m happy!

If I were to do it again I’d definitely rethink the bodice area in particular the straps 💖

Next year I’d like to say I’d do something that requires less effort buuuuuttt nah I love Halloween and every second I spent sewing this dress was worth it 💖💖💖 here’s to next year…and already planning!!!

Golden ✨✨✨

As I was packing for my big move back home I went through a fair bit of my past artwork and filed away all of my originals and prints…

The top drawing is one I did for the Girl Gang Leeds Fanzine launch…I created this anatomical heart with a musical twist to accompany a zine article all about how music saved their life! 🎶
The other drawings are the originals I painted for my Reclaiming the Wicked zine! The main one you can see is Elizabeth Bathory 🩸🩸🩸

When I was looking through them I was thinking hmm…how could I improve this? How do I finish this off? Could I turn this into something else? So I’m going to be starting the great where I revisit some of my old pieces and recreate them how I would now! I feel my art style has changed a lot but definitely has a similar theme of being a little bit spooky but I definitely miss using my inks the gold especially…so watch this space 👀

I also think a new zine for is definitely going to be in the works but I don’t have the time for it right now so maybe in the new year??? 🤔

Braids & Skeleton 💀

Woohoo! Another one done…well I’ve actually combined two for this one! I wasn’t really feeling my other sketch for the braids prompt so thought I’d give this sorcerer swordy darling some plaits!

I keep scouring fashion mags and online stores for interesting model images to use as inspo for poses, rather than awkwardly looking at myself in the mirror or taking *!absolutely ShOCKing!* pics of myself doing the pose I want (the folder of these pics on my phone is WILD and not in a good way 😂😂😂)…this one was inspired by an “athleisure” photoshoot so I decided to give my skelly babe some skeleton sportswear!

I also tried some slightly different shading techniques for this one and kept it more cartoonish like my first knightober sketch! I’m also not mad about the colour…Do you like the colour combo???

I think this may potentially be the last official knightober sketch I do for the year because my brain is bursting with ideas for more 👻spooky👻 sketches and some lil animations so stay tuned for those!!

Oh snap! 😮

Here’s a lil animation I started a few months ago…kind of got the itch to do more animation or at least start mixing my photographs and sketches with some animated elements…🤔 maybe I’m loving animation a lot more recently because I’ve been revisiting old faves like Over The Garden Wall, Regular Show and all of the Treehouse of Horror eps of The Simpsons!! What are your fave cartoons? 📺

I’ve also been feeling guilty for being a bit behind with my knightober sketcharoonies but I’m making sure I’m producing things I really like, rather than churning sketch after sketch out…

I started a new one a couple of days ago and I’m super happy with her and I’ve even been experimenting with colour a bit more but now I’m like ugh why’d I do that because it won’t look “aesthetic” against the rest of my feed…which is totally dumb because who really cares that much 😂

Anywho, me being me it’s likely she might have a colour makeover before I upload…ooorrrr maybe the next few sketches will all be colourful hmm who knows???

🍁Crisp Autumn Leaves🍂

The leaves have been turning those lovely autumnal shades for a while now but today I had my first proper crunch in a pile of nice crispy copper coloured leaves. So nice!!

I thought I’d share this pic I snapped when out for a walk on one of my many walks I used to take in York to use up rolls of film…this isn’t a film shot but I wanted to share a little bit of colour since I exclusively shoot in black and white because I’m soooo cool 😎😎😎 I’ll probably share some snaps soon because I really enjoy opening the packet of 6x4s and just holding a physical photograph in my hand!! 📷

I was hoping to finish another knightober sketch last night but honestly I wasn’t loving my drawing…I’ll probably revisit it eventually but I think I’ll start on the next one, or one of the other prompts rather than keep looking at it!

Tonight it’s my old D&D groups first session back after a small hiatus so I won’t get much sketching done this Eve but it always inspires me and fills me with spooky creativity!!!

…hmmm might start heightening the spookiness of my sketches as we inch towards Halloween 👻🤔

⚔️Breastplate⚔️

Day 7 of Knightober was Breastplate…I’ve been working on this one for 3 days now and I’m very happy with the finished sketch!!

I’ve been wanting to inject a bit of modernity into these knightober drawings and this one in particular has given me an idea for a little project that I might turn into a zine!

⚔️Marigold ⚔️

Here we are kicking off October with my first sketch…three days late…but hey just like my Marigold knight I’ve been busy spinning plates 😂

I’m very happy with how this turned out! ✨ I tend to stay far away from colour but I couldn’t resist using a colour palette inspired by marigolds! 💛🌼🌟
As soon as I saw this prompt it made me think of washing up gloves (and a few other of you thought that too)…so here we are…a magical Marigold wearing babe!
I’m hoping to inject some fun patterns into the rest of my drawings this month too because I just can’t resist 🌼🌼🌼

October awaits ⚔️
Happy Sunday all!! I’ve not been feeling too grand this week and work has been super busy so I haven’t really done much…but I definitely needed a few days of just lazing around!
On the plus side this has meant I’ve had time to trawl insta and found an ace October drawing challenge in that of Knightober 🗡🗡🗡
It’s good because the prompts are spread out throughout October so there isn’t a need to upload a new drawing every day…I’ve only completed all 31 days of an “Inktober” once before and my goodness was I drained by the end! But I feel inspired by these prompts and can’t wait to get my sketch on!!!
I’ve also recently decided that I’m going to start redrawing some of my old characters I’ve created in the past…it started with a couple of pumpkins and now I’m on redrawing a spooky witch babe! 🔮🔮🔮
I’ll be sharing the finished sketches next week and then starting on Knightober ⚔️

…smudges happen🖋
Ahkkk…I’m out of practice! But you know what…it’s okay!
Now, I still absolutely love calligraphy but I’ve definitely found other ways of expressing my creativity recently…now I much prefer character drawing, fashion sketching and studying patterns.
I used to really enjoy the precision, the straight harsh lines and the draaama of gothic calligraphy…but now I definitely prefer lose sketchy lines, drawing flowing fabrics and scratchy pens and inks ✏️
Hmmm maybe I’m not as much of a perfectionist as I once was now too…I wouldn’t have dared share a mistake or a work in progress that wasn’t quite “aesthetic” enough…
Here’s to making mistakes, being clumsy and smudging things and just letting yourself make mess🖤
Also…it’s the Autumn equinox on Wednesday!!! I mean I’ve already been in full on autumn spook mode pretty much since the start of September (technically is right if you go by the Gregorian/meteorological calendar) buuutt it feels more acceptable to talk about Halloween and bonfire night and such now…even though we’re currently having a weird sun moment 🌞

📷Snap Snap🎞
I thought I’d share something a little bit different to the sketches to break up my feed a bit…About a year ago I purchased this Zenit-E camera from ebay! It was a risk because I didn’t know if it would even work/if I could work out how to use it!
Lo and behold it did! 🖤 I shot my first roll of film, sent it off and got back an envelope of moments captured in film! 🎞
I’ll probably share a few snaps from the roll in the future but for now have a photo of the camera including it’s fab 70s rainbow strap 🌈
…🐝 this pic was taken as a wasp was crawling up my jumper when I visited York for the first time since moving away! A lovely lady helped rescue me from it because it had made its way up onto the roll neck of my jumper and I just couldn’t get it off 😂
Anyways thank you all for being here and welcoming me back so warmly…and congrats if you’ve read this whole load of bumf
