Whether you run an entertainment business or you’re a performer heading into the busiest stretch of your year, I have a sneaking suspicion most of these squares will feel just a tad familiar by December, and a couple of them might already be ticked 👀

Absolutely no judgement here whatsoever, because peak season has a way of turning even the most organised among us into a car-park invoicer!

Last week I posted a carousel that was a little bit personal, mainly because I’ve been called, or called myself, most of the things on those slides at some point during my performing years. ✨

For nearly a decade of summer contracts, cruise ships, touring shows and freelance work, despite how much I adored the work, I felt a little bit on the outskirts of the industry (if you've read my chapter in Spotlight On Success, you'll already know all about this!).

What I didn’t realise at the time was how much this industry needs people like that. All my little admin habits became the foundation of HVA, and now I get to bring them to performers and entertainment businesses who would much rather be out front than buried in the paperwork, which feels like a rather lovely full-circle moment.

Woah, it’s the nearly the middle of October already, which in entertainment terms means we’re officially in tech week 👀

Anyone who’s been through a tech run knows it’s the least glamorous part of putting on a show. It’s long, it’s fiddly and there’s a lot of standing around while someone sorts out a cue, but it’s also the reason opening night runs smoothly instead of falling apart in front of a full house. Your business backstage works in exactly the same way, and October is the last stretch before the bookings double where you’ve still got the headspace to get your cues in order.

None of the three jobs in this carousel need a new system or a free weekend, just ten minutes each and a cup of tea, then future you will be very glad you did them come December.

Confession time: when I launched The Gig Hub in September, I was so excited about building it that I don’t think I explained clearly enough what it actually is. So over the next few weeks, I’m putting that right, starting today with the simple version. ✨

The Gig Hub is a gig management system for entertainment agency owners, the ones juggling ten, fifteen or twenty-plus clients across email threads, spreadsheets and a lot of very good memory. It brings every gig into one place, from the first enquiry right through to the final invoice, so you can see where everything stands without opening six different tabs to find out.

It’s built in Trello, which means it’s a visual board rather than yet another spreadsheet, and it comes as a ready-made template with a guide to walk you through setting it up. They need an hour, a cup of tea and a willingness to finally replace the headshot you've been meaning to swap since your last summer season đź‘€
