Most people already know what they should be doing.

Walk more.

Exercise regularly.

Get a bit more sleep.

Drink a little less alcohol.

Eat a little better.

The information isn't hidden.

So if we already know, why do so many people still struggle?

Because knowing and doing are two very different things.

The problem usually isn't knowledge.

It's consistency.

It's trying to do the right things when work is busy, energy is low and life gets in the way.

The people who succeed long term don't necessarily know more.

They simply find a way to keep showing up.

One of the biggest fitness myths I see is that people think they need to pick a side.

Walking.

Zone 2.

HIIT.

The truth?

Your heart doesn't care about fitness trends.

It benefits from a mixture of all three.

Walking is excellent.

Steady cardiovascular exercise matters.

But occasionally, your body should also work harder and adapt to challenge.

The key isn't choosing one.

It's understanding how much of each YOU actually need.

Most people over 40 don’t fail because they’re lazy.

They fail because fitness has become:

too extreme
too confusing
and too unrealistic for normal life.

After 30+ years coaching hundreds of people, I keep seeing the same 5 mistakes repeatedly.

So I’ve put together a free PDF:
5 Things To Stop Doing After 40

No hype.

No fake transformations.

Just realistic advice that actually works long term.

Comment PDF below and I’ll send it over.

Haworth

A few photos of our visit celebrating 5 years.

A visit to the Brontë Parsonage, a few cafés and bars plus great hospitality and lovely food on Saturday and Sunday lunch at Haworth Steam Brewing Co. - highly recommend 👌🏻

After I closed the doors to my last gym in July 2011, I said I would never own a gym again ⛔️

Lots changed in my life ☀️and this chapter began 📖

The cliche before & 'so far' photos.

I started this phase of my career 3 years ago - my studio. It opened on 1st January 2023.

1️⃣☝️The first photo was taken in the days leading up to New years day.

2️⃣✌️The second photo, or the so far, was taken this afternoon, 10th January 2026.

Its still a work in progress regards equipment and also where I am as a business.

What made me change my mind and what lessons did I learn?

1. This is a small unit/low rental and it falls within 100% business rate reilef - but the government are snapping at the heels of people like me 🏴‍☠️

2. I am open by appointment only - which I am not killing myself in the process, ironic because I am trying to extend lives in this job 🤷

3. I have limited availability for 1-1's - whilst 1-1's are still an important part of this type of business, doing less of them allows me to free up more time for no.4

4. I specialise in small groups (4-6 people) - I didn't have any small groups at the beginning, for maybe the first 3 or 4 months at least....and surprisingly only a handful of 1-1 clients.

I had a vision and I knew what I wanted to do or didn't want to do

Small group training started, as far as I know, in the US probably in the late 90's. Most called it semi-private training. I didn't and still don't like this name. I know what it is and whilst it is that, the name just feels wrong and weird.

I tried launching "semi-private" training around 2010 in my old gym. It didn't take off or I didn't really push or persevere. Fast forward 15 years and its everywhere but now more commonly known as small group training.

I started with zero small groups. 3 years later, I have 11. And, its increasing.

Considering the state of the UK economy, if you are wanting to have a coach or 'trainer', this is by far the best option but mine has all the benefits of individualised exercise in my group sessions.

If you want to find out more about my small group sessions, message me 'SG' and you can receive 50% off a 6 week block - 12 sessions for £185.

People often ask what is the difference between a Personal Trainer and a Coach?

A good way to explain is from a client of mine who is a psychiatric nurse, and they said it like this:

A counsellor is good at helping deal with a short term problem.

A psychologist would go into a problem on a deeper level with greater understanding, knowledge, skills but on a long term.

In fitness, a Personal Trainer can be very effective for motivation, technique and accountability.

A coach goes into more detail with exercise, sleep, nutrition, mindset, habits, lifestyle, injury, recovery and long term progress.

Both can effective - the difference is depth, breadth and how much of your life supports your strength and health.

A recap on the last week, planning this week and a few weeks/months ahead.

My mind is often all over. Thousands of thoughts each day. A never ending list of jobs at work and at home to complete. I write this with christmas 18 days away and thinking of getting presents for family, loved ones etc, having enough money for this...it is no wonder I forget half the stuff I need to do.

So, the following photos provide a glimpse of what my life is like and ive no doubt you or whoever is reading thos probably does the same or similar things.

Photo 1 - a mind map of my to do list for work

Photo 2 - a book i am listening to when I walk to and from work

Photo 3 - the podcast ive listened to the most this year strengthcoachpodcast

😀 Here is a review I received recently on Google.

Investing in your own health is important. BUT many people are struggling to prioritise exercise.

Take Andrew, who wrote the review, he is 66 years old and has improved his strength & fitness over the past 2 or more years whilst working with me.

You've probably been contemplating doing something about your own health. Now you need ACTION.

Andrew is inspiring, be like Andrew.

If you are:

👉🏻 You prefer a trainer who you can relate to (i'm 49 years old in 2 weeks and have my own challenges with injury and age related decline)

👉🏻 You want someone who understands what it means when you have little time and a busy life with work, family, elderly parents, children, stress (Ive devised a routine that is only twice a week and highly effective so you don't have to spend many hours in the gym)

👉🏻 You'd like to know the trainer has worked with many people in midlife (I have more than 30 years working as a coach and predominantly I've worked with people 40+ years old)

Plan for the future and start before the new year rush.

Get in touch. I have launched my STRONG course that introduces a sustainable and effective routine into your life, DM or message STRONG in the comments below.
