Try something new this weekend in New Mills during a workshop at Milestone Studios!

(As an added bonus, our studio building is staying nice and cool, so why not escape the heat and get making at the same time?)

We have workshops back to back this weekend. Gel Plate Printing on Sunday is fully booked, but there are still some places left for Encouraging Play on Saturday morning from 10am till 12pm 🎟

Encouraging Play Collage Workshop will be led by Stockport based artist and will be a relaxed environment to cut, stick, and socialise, offering themes and guidance if participants feel they'd like it. Otherwise it's a space to create playfully, immersing yourself in colour, pattern, and texture.

All ages and abilities welcome, no experience necessary. All materials are provided, and refreshments are included.

For June's Collage Club, we created single colour collages that, when placed together, created a rainbow! 🌈🎨

Collage Club is back on the 23rd of July, but if you need a bit of cut and stick before then, join us this weekend for a daytime workshop!

Encouraging Play with artist dela ball | artist + illustrator is happening this Saturday from 10am till midday.

During this collage workshop, play, self expression, and fluidity are encouraged. The workshop will be a relaxed environment to cut, stick, and socialise, offering themes and guidance if participants feel they'd like it. Happy Pride New Mills! 🌈🌈🌈

We managed to catch a rare photo of all our studio members yesterday whilst we were hanging the flag from our balcony railings.

We're open till 5pm today for New Mills Pride 🏳️‍🌈

Drop-in to Milestone for facepainting, friendship bracelets making, and rainbow basket weaving!

Our Pride month exhibition, Every Shade of Us, is also open today, as well as our zine library and studio shop.

In the run-up to our first tote bag printing workshop, we've been playing around with some designs ourselves.

And....! Check out our brand new staff t-shirts and tote bags, printed in house by on our 1830's Columbian Press 🤩

Totes are organic cotton and t-shirts were bought seccond hand right here in New Mills.

Printed totes are £3.50 and are now available to buy from the studio 🛍

🗓Sundays in June: Fairisle For the Fearful

Learn the traditional art of Fairisle knitting with Kate. Knit a mug hug and learn to design, knit with different strands, and steek your knitting in a friendly and relaxed environment. No Fairisle experience needed but basic knitting skills required (cast on and off, knit and purl).

🗓Friday 19th June: Letterpress Taster: Print your own tote and tee

During this 2.5 hour workshop you'll get hands-on with our beautiful 1830's Columbian Printing Press and learn the basics of traditional letterpress printing with our antique wooden type. We'll supply a cotton tote bag for you to print your final text based design onto. If you would like to print a t-shirt during the workshop please bring one with you that your happy to print onto!

Sunday 28th June: Gel plate printing workshop: Introduction to monotype gel press with Vicki Jordan
2-4pm, £28 per person

During this session, I will take you through a range of gel plate techniques - including layering, impressing, image transfer and using stencils and masks. We will also use leaves and flowers to create beautiful unique prints. You will leave with a range of monoprints, which can either be framed as they are, or used to create cards, covered books, collages, gift tags etc.

Fancy having a go at gel plate printing? I've got spaces available on my next workshop, at on Sunday 28th June.

It's a really fun & relaxed session, playing with paint, textures & patterns. We'll experiment with a few different techniques, using stencils, plant materials & found objects to create a whole range of monoprints. You'll go away with arms full of unique prints, that can be used as collage material or framed as pieces of art in their own right.

What a wonderful Saturday at the studio spent with our incredible, creative community.

We printed our first Milestone Studios t-shirts using wooden type (we'll share pictures soon!)

We also opened our July exhibition and invited visitors to print their own letterpress prints.

We were gifted some beautiful flowers, thank you Kate and Martyn 💐

Finally, we ended the day with Charlie Collins teaching a private letterpress workshop for a group of local artists. The group learnt how to set and lock type, operate our columbian printing press, and create unique prints on paper and fabric.

We're at Buxton For Books today at The Buxton Crescent Experience & Pump Room 📚

Pop in from 10am till 4pm to see us, and other stalls with work by local authors, publishers, and illustrators. It's free entry.

On our stall we have printable, cards and handmade books and zines for sale. We've also brought the with us, with a collection of zines from the library to browse through.

On our stall, you can also make up your own zine kit to take away with you!

Don't forget - our next exhibition opens at the studios tomorrow. Join us from 10am for the launch of Every Shade of Us.
