As a bookfolding artist i cannot actually sell a single item based on the basic pricing formula, because EVERYONE would deem my items far too expensive.
For example.
A book i made recently was made over 2 days and easily took at least 8 hours to make..
To bookfold i have to mark each page, marking multiple specific measurements on each page. I then have to go back through the book and cut each of those marks, some very intricate designs can have up to 42 marks per page. Baring in mind i have to use a book with a minimum of 400 pages, more for more intricate designs. I then have to go back through a final time and fold certain parts to create the image. This is time consuming.
Going by this formula below, at basic minimum wage i would have to charge at the very least £83.36 per book and that would just be taking into account the time it takes to make these things, not including the materials. If i had to put it to wholesale or retail price it would become silly priced.
Instead my books are priced from just £20. Paying myself just £2.50 per hour of my time and sadly my books will still be seen as expensive to some. :-(
