Today, Briton Ferry Silver Brass Band took to the stage at the National Eisteddfod and achieved a very respectable fourth place.

We are incredibly proud of this result, but today was about so much more than a placing. It was about getting there, standing together and sharing all the hard work that has brought us to this moment.

The past couple of weeks have been incredibly difficult. At times, simply making it onto the stage felt like an achievement, but we did it together.

Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who helped us get there today, especially our borrowed players. We truly could not have done it without you. Your support, commitment and kindness mean more to us than we can say!

Once again, we dedicate today’s performance to Irene. We kept a seat for you on stage today, and you remained at the heart of every note we played.

Today, we played as one band, one family, and we are immensely proud. 🤍

Sad and heavy-hearted, we share the news that Irene Bailey, one of our dedicated cornet players, has passed away.

Irene joined the Briton Ferry Silver Band family in 2019, not long after moving to the area, and quickly became a devoted member. She very rarely missed a rehearsal, very often only for visits from family who she clearly adored.

She was a fantastic player and just as generous a mentor, always making time to encourage the younger players coming through, offering advice and support to help improve their playing.

Anyone who's sat near the front row cornets will know the bond Irene shared with her section…so close that they had a habit of hitting the wrong note together, in perfect unison, with nobody ever quite able to point the finger at who started it!

Even through her illness, Irene's dedication to the band never wavered. Just three weeks before she passed, she was there for a full rehearsal, making plans for when she would next attend.

Our thoughts and condolences are with Irene's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

Thank you for everything you gave to our band, Irene. Rest in peace ❤️🎺

ONLY JOKING!

Before anyone starts looking skyward for the next performance slot… yes, it was an April Fools’ joke. No live recordings are being launched into space just yet.

But while we may be staying firmly here on Earth, we would love to see you at one of our performances during the year.

If you are looking for live music for a summer event, Christmas celebration, or another special occasion, please do get in touch. Briton Ferry Silver Band is always pleased to bring brass band music to audiences a little closer to home.

Keep an eye on our page for upcoming engagements and we hope to see you soon!

We are delighted to announce that Briton Ferry Silver Band has been selected to have one of our live recordings played in space as part of a new initiative exploring how music from Earth might be shared beyond our planet.

The project is said to be aimed at introducing the sound of traditional brass band music to whatever life may exist out there, a thought we find both humbling and exciting in equal measure.

To think that the sound of Briton Ferry Silver Band could travel beyond Earth is a truly remarkable idea, and we are proud to play a small part in such an unusual and historic venture.

Further details will be announced soon.

We are proud and excited to be representing Briton Ferry at the Welsh Regional Championships at the magnificent Brangwyn Hall, Swansea, as part of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain regional qualifiers.

Our band has been working hard in rehearsals and we can’t wait to take the stage today!

We came together on 15th February for our Annual General Meeting to look back on an excellent 2025, and to set the stage for 2026

A particular highlight was our MD Jeff presenting Elodie with an award for being our most improved player this year

Elodie hasn’t just improved technically, but has gained so much confidence. Our back row cornets are so important to the band, and having regular attendees in those seats who are confident players is helping everyone. Playing a solo in front on a large audience in St David’s Church was also a particular highlight that Jeff wanted to acknowledge.

Well done Elodie! We’re proud of you, so keep going 👏👏👏
