𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞
We’re delighted to celebrate the continued success of Dyfed Choir’s Youth Choral Scholarship Scheme (YCSS), and to extend our heartfelt thanks to Pembroke Refinery for their ongoing support with this scheme.
Côr Dyfed Choir is offering an exciting opportunity through its 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝘾𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙎𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥 𝙎𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙢𝙚 to young people who want singing to be an important part of their lives, either as an amateur or professional.
The aims of the Scholarship Scheme are to encourage and mentor talented young singers and to provide opportunities for them to perform a wide range of musical works with the choir, often in concerts with professional orchestra and soloists. It enables young singers to help fulfil the choir’s core aim which is to foster and promote interest and appreciation of choral music amongst the general public.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫?
The scheme offers regular free one-to-one tuition with qualified singing teachers and, at the end of the year, a certificate to add to scholars’ portfolios or CVs.
It also offers free annual membership of a high quality choir, worth over £100.00, and the experience of rehearsing and performing a wide choral repertoire under the baton of professional music directors.
𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲?
Any singer aged between 16 and 25 living in Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire or Ceredigion is eligible to apply for a choral scholarship. Applicants need to complete an application form and then attend an interview and audition with the choir’s Music Director. Auditions and interviews take place throughout the year. Scholars must attend regularly the rehearsals held every Tuesday evening during term-time at the Bloomfield Centre in Narberth. They will also sing in Côr Dyfed Choir concerts three or four times a year, often in St Davids Cathedral.

Our latest scholar, Dominic Harrower (pictured here with Music Director Luke Spencer), has been making the most of the opportunities the scheme provides:
“The Scholarship funded singing lessons with Luke which has given me an opportunity to improve my voice and confidence and helped me to develop as a performer. Singing in the choir means I can take part in performances of major choral works such as Handel's Messiah and Jenkins’ ‘The Armed Man’ in incredible locations like St Davids Cathedral.”

Trwy ei Gynllun Ysgoloriaeth Gorawl mae Côr Dyfed yn cynig cyfle cyffrous i bobl ifanc sy’n awyddus bod canu yn rhan bwysig o’u bywyd, naill ai yn amaturaidd neu’n broffesiynol.
Amcanion y Cynllun Ysgoloriaeth yw annog a mentora cantorion ifanc dawnus a darparu cyfleoedd iddynt berfformio ystod eang o weithiau cerddorol gyda’r côr, yn aml gyda cherddorfa broffesiynol ac unawdwyr. Gall hyn helpu’r côr i gyflawni un o’i amcanion, sef, meithrin a hybu diddordeb mewn cerddoriaeth gorawl ymhlith pobl yn gyffredinol a gwerthfawrogi cerddoriaeth.
Beth mae’r Ysgoloriaeth Gorawl yn ei gynnig?
Mae’r Cynllun yn cynnig gwersi canu cyson am ddim gydag un athro cymwysedig ar gyfer pob ysgolor. Ceir tystysgrif ar ddiwedd y flwyddyn a gellir ei hychwanegu at bortfolio neu CV.
Mae’n hefyd yn cynnig aelodaeth am ddim, werth dros gan punt, i gôr o safon uchel ynghŷd â’r profiad o berfformio repertoire corawl eang dan arweiniad cyfarwyddwyr cerddoriaeth proffesiynol.
Pwy sy’n gymwys i wneud cais?
Unrhyw ganwr/gantores rhwng 16 a 25 oed sy’n byw yn Sir Benfro, Sir Gaerfyrddin neu Sir Ceredigion sy’n gymwys i wneud cais am ysgoloriaeth gorawl.
Mae rhaid i ymgeiswyr lenwi ffurflen gais ac yna cael cyfweliad a chlyweliad gyda Chyfarwyddwr Cerddoriaeth y côr. Cynhelir clyweliadau a chyfweliadau trwy gydol y flwyddyn. Mae rhaid i’r ysgolorion fynychu’r ymarferion yn gyson yng Nghanolfan Bloomfield yn Arberth yn ystod tyrmor yr ysgol. Byddant hefyd yn canu yng nghyngherddau Côr Dyfed dair neu bedair waith y flwyddyn, yn aml yn Eglwys Gadeiriol Tyddewi.
