Hidden overheads.

🖤 A LITTLE BEHIND THE BUSINESS…

I often hear parents joke with me… “I just give you all my money!” 😂 or “You must make a fortune running a dance school!”

And I totally get why it can look that way from the outside.You pay your fees, comp entries, costumes, workshops, private lessons… and I know having a child who loves to dance can be expensive. But what you don’t often see are the invoices that land behind the scenes just to keep a dance school running.

So I thought I’d share just ONE of them. MUSIC 🎵

Something so simple. Something we literally cannot teach our classes without.

Our cost simply to be able to play music legally within our classes at the studio?

£330.86. EVERY. SINGLE. MONTH.

I’ll admit… this is probably one of the bills I grudge paying the most 😂 because it’s literally just for the ability to press play!

To put that into perspective, that one bill alone is roughly the equivalent of 11 students attending one class every week for an entire month.

11 students’ monthly fees…Gone. Just to play music.

And that’s before studio rent, electricity and heating, staff wages, insurance, licences, booking systems, accountancy, cleaning, equipment, maintenance, training and all the other costs that come with keeping our studios running.

I’m not sharing this for sympathy or to complain. I chose to run this business and I absolutely LOVE what we have created at NRJ. 🖤 But sometimes I think it’s important to show the other side of small business ownership too.

Because behind every class your child walks into, there is an entire business working away in the background to make sure the lights are on, the studio is warm, their teachers are paid, everything is insured and licensed and, apparently for £330.86 a month… the music is playing. 😂🎵

You can enjoy watching your child walk into class, dance their heart out and leave with a smile. 🖤 And I’ll keep opening the invoices behind the scenes… even if I occasionally need a lie down after reading them. 😂

Please know the door is always open. You'll be welcomed back with a smile, you can go at your own pace, and you'll be amongst friends who have missed you.
