MAMA - Musselburgh Amateur Musical Association

MAMA is an amateur group dedicated to bringing musical theatre to the Musselburgh and surrounding area.

In the beginning...

In the autumn of 1950, a few members of staff at the Musselburgh and Fisherrow Cooperative Society, along with some friends, got together to discuss the possibility of forming a company to perform a musical stage show, a popular and expanding form of entertainment at the time. Their successful meeting led to the decision to recruit interested local residents and start rehearsa

ls for 'A Country Girl', which they planned to perform in the spring of 1951. And so the Cooperative Musical Association came into being. The name was later changed to Musselburgh Amateur Musical Association. A Country Girl duly opened at the Stoneyhill Community Centre in April 1951. The show was an immediate success and plans were soon made to establish a musical production as an annual event. MAMA today...

Now past our sixtieth year MAMA continues to go from strength to strength. The company have performed every spring since 1951, and now also entertain Musselburgh audiences every winter with their annual R***e in the Brunton Theatre. Members who have been with the company for many years rehearse and perform alongside talented youngsters, and all those who have come along in between!

🥾2791.93 MILES☀️

It is the final day of our “Walk 500 Miles and 500 More” fundraising challenge and we have SMASHED our goal of 1000 miles by almost 3x!

If we manage just 15 miles more today we will have made it to America - so the shoes are on, treadmills are out, dogs are leashed up for an extra walk and we are going to get those final 15 miles, motivated with the song “Letter From America”.

Any final donations while we take on this last challenge are greatly appreciated and we cannot thank those who have already done so or who have shared our posts and shown support that way enough!

☀️MAMA AUDITIONS☀️

Musselburgh Amateur Musical Association are thrilled to announce that we are looking for new members to join us for our 2026/27 season for both our Variety Show and Musical production, Sunshine on Leith.

We warmly invite all who are interested to join us for an information evening where auditions will also take place for those wishing to join.
