The Vale

The Vale In the foothills of the Peak District, The Vale is a former textile mill converted to a state-of-the-art venue for all kinds of creative happenings.

If it’s live performance you’re after, The Vale hosts a variety of music, theatre, dance, and cinema throughout the year. This space is also used by our resident Carnival arts organisations to develop new productions and artists as part of our Northern Carnival Centre for Excellence. Our mixed-use and specialist studios are also a hit with visual artists. All our spaces are available for hire and we would love to welcome you to our growing family of creatives that call The Vale home.

It's back! We’re kicking off a new season of Sunday Sessions with guest artist Paolo Fuschi, a Sicilian‑born, Manchester‑based musician whose soulful blend of blues, funk and groove makes for a brilliantly uplifting afternoon.

🗓 Sunday 13th September
⏰ 1pm - 4pm
🎟 Donation-on-the-door
📍 The Vale, Vale Mill, Micklehurst Road, Mossley, OL5 9JL

Paolo’s solo sets are intimate, expressive and full of character: think rich vocals, playful improvisation, stories, rhythm and plenty of guitar‑driven energy. He’s collaborated with artists including Mossley's finest Kyla Brox, Jon Kenzie and Trio Valore, and his work has been championed by Craig Charles on BBC Radio 6 Music.

As always, we'll also have our house band playing Brazilian and Latin grooves over the afternoon too.

Grab a drink, bring your friends, family, kids, and settle in for an afternoon of feel‑good live music as Sunday Sessions returns.

**Please note, this event is now donation-on-the-door. Thanks for all your feedback on this. This will ensure this event can run far into the future.**

Artist callout 🚨 We are inviting artists to respond creatively to the oral histories and research gathered through our Dancing Threads project 💃 🧵

This opportunity is centred on a series of micro-commissions and one extended commission, supporting artists to develop distinct visual responses to the material.

Final works from the micro-commissions will be presented across a series of large-format printed interpretation panels, forming a semi-permanent outdoor exhibition here at The Vale, alongside a smaller mobile exhibition touring local community heritage venues.

Dancing Threads artist commissions will run from October to December, applications close 7th September for consideration.

To register your interest, please complete the form on Global Grooves' website: https://www.globalgrooves.org/bring-the-stories-of-dancing-threads-to-life/

Or send an email with ‘Dancing Threads Commissions’ in the subject line to Tor Lysaght at [email protected].

Steve White came to fame as drummer with The Style Council, appearing on the majority of the band’s recordings throughout the ’80s, touring the world, and appearing at ‘Live Aid’ in 1985.

Steve White has also appeared live with Oasis and The Who.
