Opportunity for Young Actors aged 15-19 for Summer Half-term Residency with The Letter Room

Dates: Tuesday 26- Friday 29 May 2015
Times: 10.30am until 4.30pm each day, with the performance at 7.30pm on Friday 29 May
Venue: Daltons 5, The Customs House, South Shields (with the performance in the Studio Theatre)

We are currently recruiting for fifteen young performers aged between 15 and 19 years old to take part in a residency with the exciting and critically acclaimed theatre company, The Letter Room. This will be building on last year’s successful residency in which young actors created a piece of theatre based on the theme, ‘Wishful Thinking’. A film from the performance, which gives a flavour of the work, can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkV3lA7Bu_I

The residency will take place over four days at The Customs House, South Shields.

During the residency, young performers will work to develop their skills in movement and acting, to gain experience of devising theatre in a professional environment and to create and perform a new piece of work based on the theme of, ‘Desperate Measures’.

The work created will be performed at the end of the residency on Friday 29 May in The Studio as part of Young People’s Takeover Week,

If you are interested in taking part in this opportunity, you will need to complete an application form (attached) which will outline your interests, experience and why you would like to be part of a residency to create new devised work with a professional theatre company. Applications will need to be sent to: Fiona Kelly, Cultural Development Officer, The Customs House by email: [email protected]. The closing date for applications is Friday 8 May at 5.00pm.

If you are successful in your application, the fifteen places are full funded and there will be no cost for you to take part, however, you would need to commit to attend all four days in full, as well as the performance. We will let applicants know whether they have been successful by Tuesday 12 May.

Short Story Competition: ‘Northumberlandia’ - A New Legend

Do you live in Northumberland? Are you a budding author - would you like to see your work published?

Today, Northumberland is place of spiritual pilgrimage, where ruined priories and ancient castles sit peacefully in a beautiful, natural landscape. Such a land recalls the great deeds of warrior kings and queens, saints, heroes and heroines …and terrifying beasts, real and imagined. Northumberland is a land where legends are made and remembered.

Now it is time for a new legend created by YOU, inspired by Charles Jencks’ wonderful landform NORTHUMBERLANDIA.

Who was Northumberlandia? Where did she come from? What happened to her?

Your story can be between 250 – 1000 words. There are four categories:

Under 7 years / 8-11 years / 12-18 years / Adult

The winning stories from each category will be made available online via libraries, cultural venues and schools across Northumberland.

The overall WINNER will have their book designed, illustrated and created as an e-book. Checkout www.facebook.com/ShooFlyPublishing to view an example and go to www.mylibrary.co.uk for more details.

How can I enter?
