Jazz, folk, early, classical, even Brazilian.
Fiddles, voices, saxophones, flutes, recorders, viols, even a lute – and that’s just a start.
Something for everyone.
Free coffee and tea – and you can bring your own refreshments. Bar for evening events.
Come for one concert or stay for longer.
Visit the exhibition of works inspired by 1926 by Felton Art Group.
Monday August 24
Quax 10.30 – 11.30
Start the week with fun music played by a saxophone quartet. Pop, jazz, film themes
and video game tunes. Saxes of all sizes.
Galliard Recorder Consort 14.00 – 15.30
5 recorder players with 7 different sizes of recorder take you for a musical visit to the 20s. That’s the 1320s, the 1420s and so on.
Tuesday August 25
Singathon 26 in 100 19.30 – 21.30
Instead of listening, make music yourself. We’ve got the challenge of singing the well
known bits of 26 familiar songs spanning a century in 100 minutes! Nice long break in the middle. For everyone – singing standard is irrelevant. So we know how many copies are needed, please book.
Wednesday August 26
Flute Duets 10.00 – 10.45
John and Simon live in the Scottish Borders. They enjoy talking about flutey things as well as playing. Today’s programme is mix of original music and arrangements in lots of styles.
Alnwick Pipers 11.00 – 12.00
The Alnwick Pipers meet to play and preserve the heritage of the Northumbrian smallpipes, which have a sweet, mellow sound ideal for playing inside. They’ll play Northumbrian tunes, and melodies from other traditions too.
Fiddlezoney 14.00 – 16.00
Enjoy the sound of lots of fiddlers who love playing music from Northumberland and around the world. other instruments join in to give you a special blend of sound.
Chamber Music Concert 19.00 – 20.30
7 musicians demonstrate their versatility, changing instruments and making different groupings to entertain you with a variety of music. The Coquet Coquettes are a wind quintet – that’s flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and French Horn. They’ll play classical pieces. 4 in a Bar is a saxophone quartet with 2 instruments each. Get ready for old favourites and easy listening numbers with a swing feel. Duette treat you to melodies with a folk feel on flute and harp.
Thursday August 27
Coquet-Cabana 12.30 – 13.30
Warm up your lunch time with a trip to Brazil!
This (local) group plays Brazilian popular music called Choro which first emerged in the 1870s. It combines European popular music of the time, especially polkas, with African rhythms. Lively and tuneful.
Early Music Concert 14.00 – 16.00
Not the dawn chorus – early music is the term given to music before about 1650. Take your ears back to the time of Shakespeare. This may be the first time that a consort of viols has played in Felton – the most expressive sound you can imagine. There’ll be lute solos. And a small group of singers will contribute sacred and secular songs.
Louise, Mel and Frederick 17.00 – 18.00
A lively mix of flute and violin duets, trios and solos with a folkish leaning.
Lionheart Harmony 18.20 – 19.00
Relax back into your chair to be entertained with the smooth melodies and glorious harmony of Barbershop. The group gives you a flavour of their current favourites.
Light Music for a Summer Evening 19.30 – 21.30
Alnwick Symphonic Wind Ensemble play light classical music from Scott Joplin to Gabriel Pierné. Their pieces are arranged by Ray Thompson who used to direct the group. Kate Pringle is the conductor.
Friday August 28
Cheviot Wind Trio 11.00 – 12.30
Flute, clarinet and bassoon combine to present a programme of entertaining music, taking you through the whole spectrum from soothing to stimulating and back again.
Tales at Tea Time 15.00 – 17.00
Jan Archbold reads a selection of her favourite Northumbrian stories, hoping you’ll enjoy them too. A mix of local legend, history, fairy stories and even a family tale. Local tunes and songs between each.
Top Banana 19.00 – 21.00
Marianne (singer), Soo (clarinet), Ian (guitar) and Angus (double bass) offer you an evening of relaxed jazz, blues and soul from Ella Fitzgerald to Amy Winehouse.
Saturday August 29
Share a Tune Day 10.00 – 16.00
The grand finale to the festival is an Open House for all who play or sing, however experienced or beginnery, old or young. Book a slot if you want to share a tune or song, alone or with a group. Accompaniment available if needed.
Music in any style – folk, classical or whatever, but (mainly) acoustic.
There will be playing together sessions throughout the day. Come just for those if you want, but do book in.

Village Hall Centenary Art Exhibition
The Hall was opened in 1926 and has hosted a wide range of community activity over the years. Felton Art Group has been active for 26 years. Current members of the group have produced art work stimulated by the art and artists around in 1926, and work reflecting the culture and happenings of 1926, including local and national events of that year. Some of those events may surprise you!
A visit to the Coquet Room during the week will present you with paintings in the style of Monet, Art Deco and others alongside work commemorating 1926 events such as the General Strike, including the derailment of the Flying Scotsman in Cramlington, the first British Grand Prix, the births of Queen Elizabeth II, David Attenborough, Winnie the Pooh, Marilyn Munroe, the deaths of Rudolf Valentino, the invention of TV and traffic lights, and of course the building and opening of the Village Hall.
The parallel and exciting programme of music gives you a chance to enjoy the creativity of the community the Hall was designed to support. Don’t miss it!
