What a pleasure it was for ArtsBloc to recently host three sessions for Morley’s Girl Guides! Two groups took part in one hour workshops getting to grips with Leonardo’s ‘Sfumato’ technique and one group of younger girls had a go at poly printing butterflies. Didn’t they do well! ❤️ 👩‍🎨

Our final Drawing Skills workshop for kids at ArtsBloc in Morley was inspired by the work of illustrator Quentin Blake. 🖊️ 🖼️

The children created self-portraits alongside their own imaginative creatures called Hullabaroos — unusual animals that were creative and quirky, but could still realistically exist! They did a fantastic job capturing the energy and character of Blake’s distinctive style, which looks simple but is actually very challenging to recreate.

A brilliant end to a great series of workshops — well done everyone!

This week in our adult art class we spent two hours working from a live model, exploring both pencil studies and ink studies.

After some careful observational drawing, everyone was encouraged to loosen up, become more expressive with their line work, and approach the subject in their own individual way.

It was fascinating to see how differently everyone responded to the same pose in such a short time — each piece had its own personality, energy, and creative interpretation.

The variety of styles and approaches made for such an inspiring session, and it’s always a reminder that there is no single “right” way to draw. Thank you to everyone who came along, Amy Laura for being a great model and Seven Hills for providing the after workshop drinks. 👩‍🎨

Mark-making skills by drawing lemon slices 🍋✏️
The group worked with great focus and creativity, carefully observing shape, texture, and detail to create some fantastic drawings. It was lovely to see everyone growing in confidence and experimenting with different marks and techniques.
We’re so proud of what they achieved — well done everyone! 🎨✨

Our Adult Art Club meets for two hours every Thursday and what a great bunch they are!

In recent weeks we have studied figure drawing, expressive mark-making, portraits and watercolour flowers. Love it when the creativity is flowing! Please give them ‘like’. 😊 👨‍🎨

An amazing hour of creativity at ArtsBloc! 🎨✨

Our young artists explored Vincent van Gogh’s drawing, The Sower (1888), creating their beautiful drawings inspired by the famous masterpiece. To make the experience even more authentic, the children used a reed pen and brown ink — just like Van Gogh himself!

The concentration, creativity, and confidence shown in such a short one-hour workshop was incredible. Every piece had its own character and style, and the children should be so proud of what they achieved! ⭐

🎨🌊 What a wave of creativity! 🌊🎨

This week at the ArtsBloc Studio (Morley), our one-hour kids workshop focused on mark making as part of our Drawing Skills series.

Even our youngest artists (just 6 years old!) created their own brilliant interpretations of Hokusai’s ‘Great Wave’, experimenting with expressive lines.

The enthusiasm and final pieces were outstanding — such a joy to see their confidence grow so quickly.

Huge well done to all our mini artists 👏

A lovely start to our Drawing Skills series at ArtsBloc Studio, Morley 🎨
In this first one-hour workshop, the children explored tonal shading using graphite, creating their own versions of Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring. It was wonderful to see their focus, creativity, and confidence grow in such a short time.
They all did incredibly well—such a promising beginning to the series! ❤️
