As it's National Volunteer Week all week, we are asking if you'd like to come along and help out at Morecambe Winter Gardens...?

JOIN OUR VOLUNTEER TEAM: Here at the Winter Gardens we are winners of the King's Award for Voluntary Service.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of our Grade 2* listed Theatre. We simply could not operate without them and are are always looking for volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, especially young (and the young-at-heart!) people who have the skills and enthusiasm to help us look after this special place. We need help with day/evening weekend opening & events; from washing up/kitchen help, tours, supporting events to fundraising.

It's National Volunteer Week this coming week June 1st to 7th!

We amongst other charities serve to recognise the millions of people who dedicate their time to communities and local causes just like Morecambe Winter Gardens.

Come along and support our brilliant volunteers at the weekend. See them in action at the Theatre either helping in the cafe, running tombola, exhibition and merchandise or on a behind the scenes tour...

During the week, our wonderful volunteer restoration and maintenance team work at the Theatre to bring this beautiful building back to life.

Did you know that the Theatre is OPEN with FREE entry to all visitors every weekend?

You can:
- take in refreshments at our Cafe, with homemade sandwiches and cakes
- feeling lucky, have a go on the tombola
- support the theatre and purchase some merchandise
- or simply relax to the sound of live music, with Peter Jetson our resident organist EVERY SUNDAY!

Our award-winning 'behind the scenes' tours happen on Saturday and Sunday and start at 12.15pm and 2pm. They are not to be missed!

See the beautiful restored stained glass, the changes to the Circle and all our ongoing structural work from our experienced volunteer guides. Go where you can't go as a visitor to the theatre. Our guides will take you to the normally 'off limits' areas of our beautiful theatre and tell you of the living history of our fascinating building...

Don't forget to book yourselves onto a THEATRE TOUR this weekend....!

Pop along on Saturday or Sunday from 12.15pm and 2pm, as our expert volunteer TOUR GUIDES will be talking you through the completed stages of our restoration. Learn about the stained glass repairs by Sarah Walkley, funded by Morecambe Town Council, the stage works supported by Lancaster City Council, the detective work behind some of our wonderful features and of course get to visit the Circle and the Gods and see close up the work we have done so far on our capital rebuild.
Funding for this completed stage was through Historic England and includes new plaster features to the Circle and the repairs of the Void. But we still have to much to transform.

Thank you Lancaster District CVS for your wonderful words - your support has made it possible for us to provide the structure and sunshine to our wonderful volunteers 🌞🌞

There are some people whose influence stretches far beyond the stage. Eric Morecambe was one of them.

He gave the world laughter, but he never lost sight of the town that shaped him...Morecambe was always part of his story.

Wow, what a week it has been and in many ways, it wasn’t only Eric who brought us sunshine, the whole district did! 🌞

From the school children of Sandylands singing “Bring Me Sunshine”, to the unveiling of the striking new mural, to the many events and tributes that have brought people together, this centenary has been a fitting and heartfelt celebration of one of Morecambe’s most treasured sons.

At the weekend, we were proud to attend the centenary celebrations at Morecambe Winter Gardens, one of the brilliant organisations we work with.

Stepping inside this extraordinary building felt like stepping through time. To sit in such a majestic and lovingly preserved theatre, watching classic footage of Eric and Ernie on the big screen and enjoying the brilliant stage production of Eric and Ern, was a truly special experience. ✨

The weekend included open days, tours, live organ music, a centenary discussion with Eric’s children, Gary Morecambe and Gail Morecambe, and a programme of performances and screenings that brought the theatre gloriously to life once again.
We are proud to support Professor Vanessa Toulmin and the remarkable team of volunteers whose dedication continues to protect and revive this seaside treasure for future generations.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in the centenary celebrations, including Morecambe Town Council, Morecambe BID, Lancaster City Council, Morecambe Heritage, The Platform, More Music, Lancaster University, Morecambe Bay Academy, Eric’s family, and the many individuals and organisations who have helped make this unforgettable tribute possible.

This week, Morecambe celebrated not just a comedy legend, but one of its own. ❤️
