As you may be aware A Splendid Day Out, our flagship event, is entering its sixth year of operation in 2019, and we are very happy and proud it has survived this long and is becoming a popular destination for everyone - especially in an increasingly crowded event year.
We started the event on a shoestring, committed to providing a fun, silly and entertaining grassroots event. We think we've achieved that, and it appears to be popular within the Steampunk AND non-steampunk world, which makes us very happy.
As it has grown it still retains its 'not-for-profit' stance, we do this voluntarily, it is staffed by volunteers, all monies from tickets, entry fees and trading fees goes to pay for venues, artists and infrastructure.
We have a couple of awesome supporters locally, namely Morecambe BID and Morecambe Carnival, but the only external financial support comes from Arts England, who support the Arts of Steam element to bring writers and makers to the event.
Any surplus left at the end of the year, goes directly back into the event - and there isn't a lot as we ensure that cost meets costs. It is fun, it is hard work and as the area struggles to retain venues and the costs of hiring those that remain and finding a varied menu of entertainment go ever higher - you know the story - it has challenges.
So the ASDO team would like to thank all of you for your continued support and enthusiasm and have a wonderful 2019.
