Trimpell Sports & Social Club – Fun Day Update

Unfortunately, we are extremely disappointed to announce that the Fun Day planned for this weekend has now been cancelled.

The trustees of Trimpell Sports & Social Club have made the decision to remove the full current committee and form their own interim committee.

The committee that has been removed is a relatively new committee, who had recently taken on the responsibility of trying to move the club forward and deal with the challenges currently facing Trimpell.

We understand that the trustees are now looking at bringing back members of the previous committee as part of the interim arrangements.

At present, the full details surrounding these decisions, including the reasons behind them and what happens next, are still unknown to us. We therefore do not feel it would be appropriate to comment or speculate further until we have a clearer understanding of the situation.

We know how much work, time and generosity has gone into organising this weekend, and we are incredibly sorry to everyone who was looking forward to attending.

We would like to say a huge thank you to every local business, sponsor, volunteer, member and member of the community who offered their time, equipment, donations and support to help make the Fun Day possible.

The support shown towards Trimpell over the past few weeks has been absolutely incredible, and we are genuinely grateful to every single person who has tried to help.

We apologise for the disappointment and inconvenience caused by the cancellation.

Thank you once again for your incredible support.

🚨 HELP US SAVE TRIMPELL SPORTS & SOCIAL CLUB🚨

For generations, the Trimpell Sports & Social Club has been part of the Morecambe community — a place to meet, play sport, socialise, celebrate and make memories.

Now, we need our community’s help to secure its future.

The club urgently needs around £60,000 worth of essential work to enable us to stay open and continue serving the people of Morecambe for years to come.

❤️ We simply don't want to lose this important community space.

That’s why we’ve launched a GoFundMe appeal to SAVE the TRIMPELL.

We know £60,000 is a huge amount, but with enough people behind us, we truly believe we can get there.

£5, £10, £20 — whatever you can spare will make a difference. Every donation takes us another step towards completing the work the club desperately needs and keeping our doors open.

And if you aren't in a position to donate, you can still make a huge difference:

🙏 PLEASE SHARE THIS POST.

Share it with friends, family, former members, teammates, colleagues and anyone who has ever enjoyed a night, match, celebration or happy memory at Trimpell.

This is more than a building. It's part of our community — and we want it to stay that way.

💚 Please help us raise £60,000 and SAVE THE TRIMPELL.

Every donation. Every share. Every bit of support matters.

Thank you, Morecambe. Let's keep Trimpell at the heart of our community. ❤️

Just to clear up a little misinformation circulating regarding the cricket and the £2,500 charge for use of the grounds.

All of this was explained openly to members at the AGM, where the financial position, the costs involved and the reasons behind the decision were discussed.

This wasn’t a decision that was made overnight, nor was it simply a case of the club deciding to charge cricket £2,500.

Over a prolonged period of time, the club had looked carefully at the accounts and what was actually being spent maintaining the outdoor facilities.

By the end, the cricket section had just 7 paying members at £70 (for the whole team) while the club itself was spending in the region of £7,500 per year on specialist costs specifically associated with the cricket facilities and pitch.

Quite simply, the club could no longer afford to continue subsidising that level of loss.

Rather than putting the whole cost onto cricket, despite cricket accounting for the majority of that specialist expenditure, the decision was actually made to spread the cost across ALL of the outdoor sporting teams using the grounds.

There was also another major issue which seems to have been forgotten.

Peter had done a magnificent job maintaining the cricket pitch and grounds for many years. The amount of work he put into it was incredible, often 40+ hours a week during the season to maintain the pitch to the required standard.

Peter had decided to retire from doing this, and unfortunately nobody was willing or able to step forward and take on that level of commitment.

That left the club with two problems: the significant financial cost of maintaining the cricket facilities and the loss of the person who had voluntarily put an enormous number of hours into keeping them going.

Nobody wanted cricket to leave Trimpell. The decision wasn’t about trying to make money from cricket or force anybody out.

It was about facing the financial reality of the situation and trying to make the outdoor sports sustainable for the future.

The club has a responsibility to all of its members and all of its sporting sections, and it simply couldn’t continue spending thousands of pounds every year subsidising one section when the money wasn’t there.

Again, this was all explained to the membership at the AGM. It wasn’t hidden, and the reasons behind the decision were made clear.

And regardless of everything else, Peter deserves enormous credit and thanks for the years of work he put into maintaining the cricket pitch and grounds. Replacing that level of voluntary commitment was always going to be incredibly difficult.

Thank you so much for your support 🙌

❤️ SAVE THE TRIMPELL ❤️

This one is a little bit personal for me.

I spent so many weekends at the Trimpell when I was younger, playing football and cricket, having a laugh with friends and making memories.

This October, the Trimpell Sports & Social Club should be celebrating 70 years at the heart of our community. Instead, it needs our help to make sure there are another 70 years to come.

Sadly, the club is currently closed due to essential works, and at least £60,000 needs to be raised to help get the doors back open.

So I’ve decided that BTC Window Cleaning is going to do its bit. 🪟❤️

👉 Any new bookings made from now until 31st August will have 20% of the first clean donated to the Save the Trimpell campaign.

So if you’ve been meaning to get your windows cleaned, why not get them sparkling while helping save a piece of Morecambe’s history at the same time?

And if you don’t need a window cleaner, that’s absolutely fine — a share of this post costs nothing and could reach someone who does. 🙏

You can also donate to the go fund me page :-

I’d love to see how much we can raise together.

70 years of memories shouldn’t end here.

Let’s get behind The Trimpell. ❤️
