Shaping the Future of Monmouth, Your Town, Your Voice!

Monmouth is an incredible place to live and work, but to make it even better, we need to work together.

We are considering setting up a brand-new Monmouth Business & Residents Group—a shared space designed to bring our whole community together.

Whether you run a local shop, work in town, or call Monmouth home, this group is for you.

Why are we doing this?

Our goal is simple - to listen, collaborate, and take action to improve our town.

This group will be a hub to: -

Share Ideas: Got a great concept for a community event, high street improvement, or local project? This is where it starts..

Open Discussions: A constructive space to talk about what’s working, what isn't, and what our town truly needs.

Bridge the Gap: Bring local businesses and residents into the same room so we can support each other and grow together.

We want to hear from you!
Before we officially launch, we want to know if this is something you’d value.

Would you join or attend meetings?

Drop a comment below with your thoughts, or give this post a ❤️ if you think a Monmouth Business & Residents Group is a step in the right direction.

Let’s work together to get Monmouth back thriving! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Finally, one archway is up! It’s amazing how making a bit of noise can actually get things moving...

Unfortunately, there is a major piece missing. I was personally involved in commissioning of the daffodil artwork intended for these signs. The council paid the artist, the artist created them, and they are ready to go ( painted ). However, there has been zero communication from the council regarding installation. Despite the artist explicitly asking to be kept in the loop so they could be installed together, she hasn't heard a word since early February (which I have confirmed with her directly).

These daffodil features were supposed to be a major photo opportunity for the street. If this project was executed properly, they would draw people in to see the arch, take photos, and naturally wander down Church Street. I’ve said from day one: this needs to be a feature street. It has so much potential !!!! , but the team behind the regeneration seems to be missing the bigger picture here!

This street could be absolutely amazing, feature art all along it.. people would spread the word.. via photos, word of mouth, instagram.. I genuinely believe done properly people from afar would come to monmouth to visit Chrch Street primarily.

With £75k in funding allocated and awarded for church street regeneration, we shouldn't be seeing this project delivered in half-hearted dribs and drabs... years apart.. Why can’t jobs just be done properly?

Where are the daffodils? Where is the second arch? We need communication and we need answers.... again..

This isn't us continually moaning.. we just want things done properly for our street!

Failure on communication.. again..

Hi All,

We can now update you on the information provided regarding our street, we have had so many people ask what is happening? So here is where we are at.

Scaffolding & Planning Status -

• 2 Church Street: The scaffold licence has been renewed until 30 June. The Council’s planning service has had no engagement from the contractor or owner yet. Officers are seeking contact to find out what works are proposed. The contractor has been informed that the licence may not be extended past June if this information is not provided.

• 4 Church Street: Works are underway on-site with a scaffold licence in place until 6 September. Heritage officers are engaging with the contractor and are awaiting a "discharge of conditions" application for certain elements of the scheme.

• 10 Church Street: The scaffold licence is valid until 8 August. The tenant has recently vacated the building. While this caused some initial delays, building surveys and design developments have continued. The owner’s agent is currently in discussions with heritage officers regarding future investigations and the Listed Building Consent application.

Church Street Rejuvenation -

• Lighting: MCC officers will inspect the street lighting on Church Street and refer any identified faults to the Street Lighting team for resolution.

• Cleansing: A request for additional street cleaning and de-weeding has been forwarded to the Grounds Maintenance team.

Business Help / Promotion / Signage -

• Funding has been allocated for Monmouth town centre wayfinding improvements in 2026/27, which will include signage for Church Street and White Swan Court.

• Options for interim promotional measures to encourage footfall to the Church Street quarter are currently being explored.

• MCC and Monmouth Town Council plan to coordinate media and communication activity once the Church Street arch is completed.

Let's hope one day Church Street can get back to looking something like it once did! 🙏

The blockade of scaffolding on our street is doing real, severe damage — and we are not backing down until it's gone.

What started as an inconvenience has become a crisis, causing financial ruin, local businesses are losing vital trade and livelihoods are on the line here!

Our street’s infrastructure is being choked and restricted...

We have hit our breaking point, but we are not giving up. We will continue to spread the word, expose the financial damage, and fight this negligence until our street is restored.

We won't stop fighting for our community.

Traders are fuming. Here’s why

One week down, and unfortunately, still no concrete information has been given.

Despite the ongoing disruption, we have received zero updates regarding the scaffolding progress, and as of yet no suggestions or visible support for initiatives to help bring foot traffic up to this part of town.

The only communication we have received so far was an email from Nationwide. Regrettably, it is clear from their response that they are not interested in addressing the very real concerns of surrounding local businesses and residents.

So far where things stand:-

• Communication:- Non-existent from project organisers - dismissive from Nationwide.
• Our end of town continues to take the hit with reduced visibility and access, with no collaborative solutions being offered as of yet.

We are not letting this drop. We will, of course, be actively following up and chasing the relevant parties for concrete information, timelines, and action plans.

Our community and our businesses deserve transparency and support. We will keep you all updated as soon as we (hopefully) get some real answers.
Thank you for your continued support and for continuing to champion this side of town!
