From Plant to Pattern – Woodblock Printing onto Fabric with .studio

Saturday 11th July 2026, 10:30am – 4:30pm

Join guest tutor and print-maker Aidan Liggins on this full day workshop, exploring woodblock printing onto fabric, taking inspiration from the plants and flowers growing in our on-site dye garden.

We’ll begin by spending some time outside observing, sketching and gathering ideas from the shapes, textures and forms found in the garden. Using your drawings as a starting point, you’ll learn how to develop your imagery into a design suitable for block printing and consider what works well when printing onto fabric.

You’ll then be guided through the process of transferring your design onto wood, carving your own printing block, and experimenting with colour and repeat pattern as you print onto cloth.

This workshop offers a chance to slow down, connect with the natural environment around us, and translate those observations into bold and expressive textile prints to take home.

The course is suitable for complete beginners or for anyone with a little knowledge wishing to learn more.

It was wonderful to welcome and colleagues from and to our creative community here at West Yorkshire Print Workshop in Mirfield.
We are hugely grateful for their support and delighted they got to have a look around our facilities, learn more about printmaking, talk to our resident artists as well as rolling up their sleeves and having a go at Letterpress and Lino cut printmaking.

It was great to talk about all the impactful work WYPW charity undertakes amongst the local communities using heritage crafts as well as discussing the amazing future opportunities.
