The diary project is now complete and they have headed home back to their family today.

The diaries have been fascinating and a privilege to work on. They can now be safely enjoyed and read by generations into the future.

‘In a world of AI, handmade (or human-made) is the new luxury.’

There have been some great social media posts on this theme recently. Thought I’d add my human-written, non-AI generated two-penneth…

We’ve had an unusually quiet weekend without a market to attend or a workshop to run. So we filled it with lots of other lovely things instead!

Hope you had a good weekend too! Back to it tomorrow with a Clamshell Box-making workshop.

If you’re looking to learn something new, create a special gift for a Christmas, or just have a peaceful and purposeful day of creative endeavour, we have a few spaces left on our remaining public workshops this year.

Here in our converted Victorian village school workshop, each one-day course costs £90 per person and includes all materials, refreshments and an ‘afternoon tea’-style lunch. We keep group numbers small to ensure everyone gets the tuition they need, and maintain a steady supply of tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day.

You’ll leave with a fully hand-crafted item to keep, use or gift - whether it be a journal to write in, a portfolio to contain important papers, a presentation case for a special book, or a skein of spun wool for your next special knitting project.

You can find more information on all of these courses, or book your place through our website.

What a beautiful end to a lovely weekend!

Thank you to everyone who visited our stalls this weekend, to browse, chat or buy. It was lovely to meet you all. The weather was kind and I got about 14 hours of spinning done as well!

Thank you to Lincoln Makers Market 🎨🖌️ and Walled Garden Baumber for organising such lovely events too.

Some of David’s most difficult book repairs require a CAT scan… 😁

Thank you to everyone who has booked in a repair with us recently - the bindery is full of treasures being carefully conserved.

We are now taking repair bookings for March 2027 and beyond, so if you’d like your treasured tome on the waiting list, please contact us for an evaluation. 😊

October is upon us and we’ve just a few fairs this month before things start to get very busy in the run up to Christmas.

Looking forward to these lovely events!

David is currently working on binding a fascinating family social history into a set of volumes that can be kept safely, long into the future. Years of diary entries by a Lincolnshire agricultural worker, across the war years - a real privilege to work on.

If you are interested in book repair, you can now find a page dedicated to this on our website (link in bio too).

Pumpkins are ready - both on the veg patch and on the jewellery bench!

A fresh crop of handmade copper pumpkins, each with textured silver leaf and tendril, will be available at our next markets:

- Lincoln Makers Market 🎨🖌️ on Sat 3rd October at St Paul in the Bail, Lincoln

- Walled Garden Baumber ‘All Things Lincolnshire’ event on Sun 4th October

We’ll also have our usual range of beautifully handbound books, handwoven scarves and garments and unique gemstone jewellery. Time for an autumnal treat - or perhaps even starting to shop for Chri…. I won’t say it yet!

A busy couple of days at the Old School, delivering a bespoke course making traditional leather-bound books.

Returning student David made a beautiful half leather book with sewn-in boards and zigzag end papers, and a bespoke gold-tooled leather spine label. We are sure it will go on to be well used!
