Some might find these a bit quirky, but I just love the characters. Obsessed with the naivety of these new finds from the other day. I'm constantly clearing out and rearranging my space, but these are definitely staying.

I've got so many ideas swirling around, and I've decided to make myself a bit vulnerable and share the process with you, messy bits and all. Can't wait to see what I turn these into. Let the project begin!

So true! Real art pushes us out of our comfort zones and makes us think deeper about our own perceptions. 😊

Susan Sontag’s quote, “Real art has the capacity to make us nervous,” speaks to the transformative power of art.

It suggests that true art challenges our perceptions, provokes thought, and often confronts uncomfortable truths about humanity and society.

This capacity to evoke discomfort can be a catalyst for deeper understanding and reflection, pushing us to question our beliefs and the status quo. Sontag’s work often explored the relationship between art and experience, emphasizing that art should not only please but also disturb and inspire dialogue.

Someone I want you to know about.

Alma Thomas, an American abstract painter. One of the most important figures in American abstract art, and someone I think about often when I'm working with colour.

She taught school for 35 years. It was in her sixties and seventies that she really found her voice as a painter. In 1972, at the age of 80, she became the first Black woman to have a solo show at the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Her work is rings and mosaics of colour. Bold, joyful, pulsing with life. The kind of painting that makes you feel glad to be alive.

She said: 'Through colour I have sought to give shape to beauty and joy.' I have that written somewhere near my studio.

This month I'm shining a light on Black abstract artists. Alma Thomas deserves to be known by everyone who loves colour. Go and find her work.

Art is long and life is brief, and mortality looms. — Margaret Atwood.

Forever inspired by the connection between human creativity and the beauty of the fleeting. ♥️

Art - enduring, cumulative, potentially outlasting its creator.
Life — fleeting and constrained.
Mortality — the ever-present horizon that gives urgency to both.

It’s a memorable compression of a theme that runs throughout much of Atwood’s work: the tension between human creativity and human impermanence.

Something I get asked a lot: how do you actually choose art for your home?

Not 'what matches my curtains', but how do you find a piece that is genuinely right for a space?

I've put together a proper guide: eight things I genuinely think about as an artist: feeling, scale, light, and what it means to buy something you'll love in ten years.

The carousel is over on our Instagram , worth a look if you've ever stood in a room and wondered what would work on the walls.

And a quiet note: new collection arrives at the end of June.
Follow this page to see it first.

"Art is something that makes you breathe with a different kind of happiness." — Anni Albers.

Reflecting today on her immense contributions as a textile artist and her philosophy on how art enriches our human experience.

Happy birthday to Anni Albers who was born in Berlin on June 12, 1899.

Anni Albers, a prominent figure in the Bauhaus movement and a pioneering textile artist, beautifully encapsulates the transformative power of art with her quote.
MAKES YOU BREATHE
She says that art has the ability to elevate our emotional state, allowing us to experience joy in a unique and profound way. This perspective highlights the deep connection between creativity and human experience, emphasizing how art can enrich our lives and alter our perception of happiness.
Albers’ work itself reflects this philosophy, as she merged traditional craft with modernist principles, creating pieces that invite contemplation and appreciation.

I want to share an artist who has profoundly shaped how I think about color: Bridget Riley.

A British icon of abstract art, she has been creating bold, extraordinary work since the 1960s and remains one of the most significant artists alive today.
What she does with color is remarkable. Her paintings don’t tell stories; they create experiences. You feel them before you understand them. The eye moves, the emotion arrives, and the brain follows behind trying to catch up.
That is the kind of art I aspire to create, work that reaches people before they have a chance to overthink it.

Is there an artist, famous or not, who has changed how you see the world?
Drop their name in the comments! I’d love to discover someone new.☺️

Revisiting the moment where the magic started.

Bringing this piece to life layer by layer was such an intuitive process. Watching it take shape here reminds me exactly why I love what I do.

This week, I want to introduce you to an artist whose work I find genuinely extraordinary.

Jadé Fadojutimi, British abstract painter. One of the most exciting contemporary artists working today.

Her paintings are large, layered, and alive. She works through feeling and instinct, and the result is abstract work that carries real emotional weight. The kind of painting that makes you feel seen even when it isn't 'about' anything you can name.

She talks about painting as a way of making what is inside visible on the outside. I think about that a lot in my own practice.

This month, I'm shining a light on Black artists whose work I believe more people should know.

I'd love to know: who are the Black artists in your world who deserve more attention? Drop them in the comments.
