不動心 in the center of the arm represents Fudōshin — “Immovable Spirit,” meaning a calm, unwavering mind — and that is exactly what this tattoo depicts: a moment of a warrior’s readiness just before facing a demon. The client asked me to design something epic and highly detailed, so that’s precisely what I created.
At the bottom, we see a samurai ascending the stairs, standing at the threshold of a radiant gate. On his left, the force of wind is raging; on his right, the power of water takes the form of turbulent waves — both elements add dynamism and contrast to the composition. The addition of red accents throughout the design further enhances this effect, emphasizing the drama of the scene and drawing attention to key details.
Since fudōshin represents readiness and inner calm rather than the act of fighting itself, I chose to focus on a close-up of the opponents faces, both waiting in full concentration for the imminent clash.
The entire piece was completed in a single full-day session and is a testament to my client’s remarkable determination — he was thrilled with the final result.
