| Today is National Child Exploitation Awareness Day.

Today is about shining a light on the hidden harm caused by those who groom and exploit young people for their own gain and profit.

Child criminal exploitation is a serious form of abuse, often involving county line networks targeting teenagers and manipulating them into criminal activity such as running drugs, choosing them because they are less likely to be suspected or stopped.

We are working to raise awareness among parents, carers, communities and young people themselves about the signs that someone may be being exploited – and to remind them that support is always available, no matter how difficult the situation may seem.

There are several signs to look out for:

🚆 Repeatedly going missing from school or home and being found in other areas
💷 Having money, new clothes or electronic devices and they can't explain how they paid for them
📱 Getting high numbers of texts or phone calls, being secretive about who they're speaking to
📉 Decline in school or work performance
🪫 Significant changes in emotional or physical well-being

More than 90% of people in Bedfordshire involved in county drug lines at a lower level are boys - but exploitation can happen to any child or young person, regardless of gender, background, ethnicity, age or religion.

By knowing the signs, starting conversations, sharing information and seeking help when needed, you can help us tackle exploitation in our communities and protect young people.

A really special moment for us 💗
We are incredibly proud to have received a National Youth Anti-Violence Educational Award for our work supporting Hertfordshire’s hosting of the Knife Angel in October 2025.

During the 'Skin Deep' tour, we delivered powerful theatre-in-education performances across schools, helping spark honest conversations with young people about knife crime, gangs, grooming and racism.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the project, including Hertfordshire Constabulary, Lives not knives team, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, and the team behind the Knife Angel tour.

We’re passionate about using theatre to educate, challenge, and inspire change. 🎭

Today, Solomon Theatre Company performed 'Last Orders' for our Year 9 students as part of our PRSE curriculum. This powerful alcohol education production highlights peer pressure, making informed choices about alcohol and many important topics that your children may wish to speak with you about tonight.

Thank you to our Year 9 students for being wonderful audience members and to the Friends of Sheldon School for their support, allowing us to bring this production to our students.

Many thanks to the Guernsey Press for this piece and to Solomon Theatre Company for once again joining us. The production is a powerful way to help young people build awareness and develop the skills to resist peer pressure and make informed choices around alcohol. Many thanks to all of the schools who welcomed the performance, shown to Year 9 students which also included from St Anne's School, Alderney for the first time. The production is funded by the Commission and has been running for many years.
