Meet Blizzard 🤍

Blizzard has recently joined us from Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World, to partner up with our resident female, Morgana.

Blizzard is 24 years old - that's over double the predicted lifespan of wild snowy owls. However, he could still live for much longer, with captive snowy owls known to live into their 30s.

Appreciation Post ✨️

Let's take a moment to highlight the incredible work of Anne, one of our charity Trustees.

Anne dedicates her spare time to creating incredible items for the zoo. This includes all the lovely bunting you see around the zoo, the curtains in our new café area and amazing items available in the shop. From handcrafted bags, bat toys, kids hats and all sorts.

We appreciate all Anne's hard work, and the amount of money she has raised for the zoo over the years has made such a positive impact for our animals, habitats and conservation work ❤️

Thank you to everyone who came along last night and made Bat Night such a success! 🦇

It was great to see so many bat lovers, and help raise awareness of this incredible group of animals!

We'd again like to extend a massive thank you to the Lancashire Bat Group for coming along, and bringing their adorable rescue bats.

The winner of the drawing competition will be contacted tomorrow. We had so many correct entries to the Bat Quiz, one will be drawn from a hat tomorrow, and the lucky winner will then be contactef for their prize too.

On Saturday 29th August, the zoo will RE-OPEN at 6:30pm until 9:30pm for a fun filled evening celebrating everything BATS.

🦇 Bat Quiz around the zoo - enter for the chance to win a prize!
🦇 Bat crafts and face painting
🦇 Native bat tours guided by native bat detectors
🦇 Tasty food served in the café, as well as bat themed cakes!
🦇 Meet a representative of the Bat Trust, and meet some special ambassador bats
🦇 Bat Talks
🦇 A few local stalls selling handmade bat crafts
🦇 See the zoo in a different light - some animals will be heading to bed, and others just starting their day!

International Dog Day but make it Raccoon Dogs!

💡 Did you know... Raccoon dogs are classified as an Invasive Species, requiring a separate licence to hold them.

Despite being native to Asia, their range has spread across Europe where their numbers rapidly rose and have a detrimental impact on the European native wildlife. This impact includes predating upon wildlife, outcompeting native wildlife for food and other resources, and spreading disease.
