We are run by members for members and we work to support our members whether they are experienced professionals or just getting started. The SPA is open to anyone with an interest in pottery and ceramics in Scotland including professionals, amateurs/hobby potters and students
We offer workshops, exhibitions and other opportunities for networking throughout the year as well as a quarterly newsletter packed with features about what our members have been up to as well as useful hints and tips. Join us at Clay Half for a relaxed, creative evening of pottery, Prosecco and a bit of time to yourself. You’ll use slabs of clay to create your own spoon rest and utensil holder, with our tutors there to guide you through the process.

Never tried pottery before? No problem! This is suitable for complete beginners, so come along, have a play with clay and see what you can make.

Playing with Fire: Woodfired pottery in Angus and beyond

Playing with Fire – an exhibition bringing together functional pottery and some sculptural ceramics from Scotland and around the world, including Japan, Brazil, the US, Germany, England and Wales.
Presented by a local group who fire pots together, the group of Angus potters erected a kiln and have been firing it for 5 years, learning as they go. Six months ago they constructed a fast-fire kiln at Hospitalfield in Arbroath. Through working together (firing over 12-18 hours), they are also building community.

The aim of this exhibition is to explain the process of firing clay with wood, to encourage an understanding and valuing of the results, and inspire others by showing what can be achieved by a group of people working together on a creative project.
