Our baby axolotls are growing fast and have recently moved into a spacious 525-litre aquarium, giving them plenty of room to explore, grow and thrive 🐋
Despite their cute appearance and permanent smiles, axolotls are actually fascinating aquatic salamanders from Mexico. Unlike most salamanders, they remain in their aquatic form for life, keeping their distinctive feathery gills as adults. They can grow to around 25–30cm in length and, with the correct care, can live for 10–15 years or more. They also require cool, clean water and excellent water quality to stay healthy.
As they grow, space becomes increasingly important. Axolotls aren't a short-term pet or a novelty animal, they're a long-term commitment that need the right environment, filtration, and ongoing care to reach their full size and lifespan 💓
For now, our youngsters are enjoying their new home, especially the tall ornaments that they've adopted as their favourite resting spots when they head to the surface for a break!
