Our willing and forever giving participants have written some absolutely incredible, incredible pieces of poetry and prose. We’ve explored cheritas, haikus, ekphrastic poetry, figurative language, dramatic scripts and more…

Huge thanks to Joe from FareShare North East for giving us and the SAWDUST WORKSHOP CIC team a tour of their warehouse today after our Third Space meeting! We are all exploring ways to work with eachother, and improve the reach of the incredible things we do individually and collectively.

FareShare do an incredible job rescuing and redistributing surplus food. It was great to see how they work and to find out more about the processes. They’ve got some big plans coming up and we can’t wait to see them be put into place 👀

We had a beautiful afternoon at working on our project “Many Hands Make Light Work”. We worked with 40 Year 6s who took part in mark making and fabric painting to create pieces that will be exhibited at Mela Diwali-Ween 🙌

Aisha Aisha and Liz Liz Collier ran this session, and had a blast meeting so many creative brains!

Looking forward to pulling all of the artwork together to create a beautiful communal exhibition.

Happy World Poetry Day!

Our ongoing Creative Health project with We are with you Redcar YP funded by Redcar & Cleveland Council is going so well. We’ve got a dedicated group of participants who today explored emotional literacy through poetic devices.

Bob Beagrie and Sara Dennis are our main facilitators for this project, and have brought out some fantastic work already.

We are really excited to be bringing an incredible pop up exhibition “Many Hands Make Light Work” to Diwali-Ween this year.

We’ll also be running free drop in workshops decorating diya pots and making mandala hands for you to take home too 👀

We’ve had an amazing weekend with our friends from Oberhausen. Sonja, Petra and Marcus from kitev — Kultur im Turm visited Middlesbrough as part of our Cultural Bridge project Perfect Strangers.

They had a jam packed weekend- Bok Bok Books Rumana hosted a welcome dinner; Bob Beagrie led a Psychogeograpy walk around the town and hosted a brilliant night of music, storytelling and poetry; Graham Jarritt and Barbara Griffin took them around The Auxiliary Project Space SAWDUST WORKSHOP CIC Boro Doughnut and Middlesbrough Art Week; we met with Middlesbrough Council and got to see the incredible Turner Prize exhibition MIMA; Open Door Art also gave a tour of his brilliant work 2B Creative Health

Lots of creative and exciting chats happening, and we are heading over to visit the team soon to see all of the incredible projects and initiatives they run.

This is a start of a brilliant partnership, bringing attention to Town Twinning and the longstanding relationship between Middlesbrough and Oberhausen. We have so much in common as a collective and individuals, so we are all excited to begin collaborating on exciting creative projects.

We are so grateful and proud of our team. Graham has gone above and beyond in managing all of our many schedules and bringing a wealth of knowledge in the relationship of the towns as well as leading the project. Barbara has connected us with artists of all kinds, weaving us together and sharing her expertise. Bob hosted an incredible night and created a brilliant poem with the Kitev team, as well as giving an in depth history of Middlesbroughs routes on their walk. Rumana shared her incredible work and experience working in communities and storytelling.

We’re running some free art workshops at 2B Creative Health on the 2nd, 6th and 13th October 12-2pm.

This is part of our “Many Hands Make Light Work” project, embracing light as our source of inspiration and led by the incredible Liz Collier

Our aim is to create a collection of individual and communal works that will be exhibited in a special pop up exhibition at Middlesbrough Mela Diwali-Ween on the 31st October.

These workshops are free to take part in and no experience is necessary, just come and get creative with a cuppa ☕️

Open Door Art Aisha

We’re very blessed to have played a small part in the research phase of this project, and Aisha has been working hard as researcher for the WoF team to find out all the amazing community and climate action groups based in Teesside.

This play is a play of hope, of inspiration and of the importance of being in a supportive community.

As part of our Perfect Strangers project funded by Cultural Bridge, we’re welcoming a creative team over from Oberhausen this weekend. We can’t wait to show them what Middlesbrough has to offer in terms of creativity and culture- including Middlesbrough Art Week and the Turner Prize!
