Just over four years ago, when I was 22, I put out a post to see if anyone would be interested in joining a pop choir.
I was a music graduate, finishing uni right in the middle of COVID, teaching singing where I could — but ever since I was young, my real passion has always been choirs.
As restrictions started to lift, I was honestly overwhelmed by the response to that post. There was so much interest that I didn’t just start one choir… I started two!
A few months later, I launched my third choir in Yarm, and about a year after that, my Ingleby choir began.
My whole concept was that these would be choirs for everyone. It didn’t matter if you thought you “couldn’t sing” — if you belt out ABBA in the shower, then we were the choir for you!
I always knew I wanted us to do concerts. They’re such a great thing to work towards, and it just felt right that the proceeds would go to local charities — Teesside choirs supporting Teesside causes.
Little did I know that four years later, my small choir would grow into four choirs with over 200 members. And what I really didn’t expect was that together we’d raise an incredible £48,856 in that time.
I feel so lucky to do a job that I truly love — one that’s created such a family feel for its members and has done so much good for local charities.
This post is just to say a huge thank you to everyone who’s supported me along the way. Thank you to all my amazing choir members, and to everyone who’s bought a ticket, donated a prize, or helped out in any way — what a team effort!
Love,
Sam 💛
