Reusable cup schemes were once seen as a “nice extra” for venues — something to trial as part of a sustainability initiative. Today, that perception has completely changed. ♻️🏟️

Across stadiums, arenas, and major live events, returnable cups are quickly becoming the new standard. Fans expect visible action on waste reduction, partners demand measurable sustainability progress, and venues need solutions that work efficiently at scale. 🌍

Modern returnable cup systems now combine smarter infrastructure with data-driven insights — helping venues improve crowd flow, reduce waste, and optimise operations while delivering a cleaner, more organised event experience.

In today’s event landscape, returnable cups aren’t a bonus feature anymore — they’re the baseline for modern, sustainable venues.

Cheltenham Festival isn’t just one of the biggest moments in the British sporting calendar — it’s also becoming a leader in sustainable events. 🏇♻️

At Cheltenham Festival 2026, nearly 1 million reusable cups were used across the four-day event, helping to divert around 10 tonnes of single-use plastic from landfill. With hundreds of thousands of racegoers attending and over 400,000 pints of Guinness poured, the scale of the operation was enormous — and so was the impact.

Behind the scenes, our team worked around the clock to keep the system running smoothly. With 10 Event Managers and 50 Cup Crew members, reusable cups were constantly collected, washed, and redistributed across the racecourse to ensure bars stayed stocked and service remained seamless.

As part of The Jockey Club’s wider sustainability strategy, reusable cups at Cheltenham Festival are helping prove that world-class sporting events and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.

A huge operation, a huge atmosphere — and a huge step towards more sustainable live events. 🌍
