We have received a Wonderful response to the current exhibition and delighted to be hosting DANUM STRINGS SUMMER CONCERT.

THE EXHIBITION IS NOW OPEN-10AM TO 2PM-TUESDAY TO FRIDAY - UNTIL FRIDAY 26th JUNE 2026!!
We would like to say a huge thank-you once again to everyone who attended the opening celebrations of local Artist William Sculthorpe, and thank everyone who also kindly contributed towards the wonderful exhibition.

Led by Myvanyy Havenhand Smith of Danum Strings we also have on display a wonderful Double Bass - Hungary 1984, originally owned by the William Appleby Music Service and would have been played by students in the Mexborough Music Service, now Doncaster Music Service.

The instrument has been played by several bass players with Danum Strings and can be seen in some of the paintings exhibited. Also on display is a wonderful example of Robert William 'BILL' Bunce craftsmanship's.

Bill Bunce is a Luthier and Violin maker based in Doncaster. He played with the ensemble for many years & continued to craft more instruments, even making violins and violas for Director Roy Jones.

We have also sourced some wonderful Information with support of the Mexborough Heritage Society, connected to the Mexborough Musical Competition Festival originally started in 1912, and would take place at the Old Grammar school now the home of FOX Gallery.

The festival continues to take place annually now under the name of Don Valley Festival.

We would love to hear your stories connected to Mexborough's Music Service & if you have any artefacts you would like to share during the exhibition please come and visit!

**A NEW MONTH & A NEW EXHIBITION**
We’ve been busy behind the scenes preparing for the opening celebrations of Artist William Sculthorpe & Danum Strings Orchestra.

* THE OPENING CELEBRATIONS EVENT* is on Saturday 16th May 2026 5PM - 8PM everyone is welcome.

The artist has produced work across a wide range of subjects, with a very particular style & observation of reality with attention to the effects of light. There is a specific interest in the particular person, place, object, and often a luminous quality which compellingly evokes light falling on to and reflecting from surfaces.

For over 10 years, William has depicted members of the Danum Strings Orchestra, during rehearsals and in concert. The new exhibition is a wonderful collaboration of Art & Music, with paintings and sheet music on display as an audio installation.

A Summer Concert with Danum Strings will take place in the main hall on Sunday 14th June 3pm - 5pm . Pastoral themed classical repertoire, perfect for the summer. Tickets; £5.00

What a wonderful response!!!

CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
** Saturday 14th March 2026 - 6pm - 8pm **

Today is International Women’s Day, please join us to celebrate the opening exhibition of Artist SALLY ANNE WICKENDEN Sally Anne Wickenden & Poetry by 60 ODD Poets!!!

Mike Obrien Mike O'Brien the curator of the project orchestrated this beautiful collaboration. A selection of poets were invited to respond to the work of Sally Anne Wickenden, a Yorkshire watercolour artist, whose haunting work often features dream like images of situations involving people interacting with fantastic creatures and landscapes.

We are thrilled to welcome Artist Sally Anne, and twelve local female Poets, Amanda Samm, Fiona Kearns, Gail Varley, Jane Sharp, Lesley Merrin, Linda Jones, Miriam Harrison,Sharron Granville, Sue Jarvis, Stephanie Bowgett, Terez Nagy, Val Bowen who's Artwork & Poetry will be on display at the Fox Gallery during March & April 2025

The opening celebrations are on Saturday 14th March 2026 . 6PM - 8PM - ALL OUR WELCOME.

This exhibition brings together a group of talented female creatives.
