From first rehearsals to leading roles… ✨🎭
As auditions begin this week for our February 2027 production of Oliver!, we wanted to look back at where it all starts.
This video shows Arianna and Jonah during rehearsals for Mary Poppins when they were in Years 7 and 8, playing Jane and Michael Banks. Since then, they’ve grown into two of the standout leads of We Will Rock You.
Arianna first auditioned with us in Year 6 before moving to our campus and has gone on to take on leading, supporting and dance roles across our productions. Jonah began with supporting and cameo appearances and has developed into one of our leading men.
And their stories are far from the only ones. Many will remember Hester Jones-Reddy and James Long as our unforgettable Mary Poppins and Bert - but both spent years in ensemble and smaller supporting roles before taking centre stage in their final BCA production. Alys Holl spent four years in the ensemble before becoming our enchanting Belle, while Jacob Mortimore first stepped onto the stage in Year 9 before going on to play Gaston and Gomez.
That’s why we are so excited that, for the very first time, auditions are opening to Years 3, 4 and 5. We want to nurture talent even earlier and give more young performers the opportunity to grow in confidence, creativity and passion for performing.
So if you’ve ever thought, “maybe not me”… this is your sign to go for it. We always cast fairly and simply look for who is right for each role. If you’ve been in the background before, this could be your moment to step into the spotlight. 🌟
Over the next two weeks, we’ll audition more than 200 pupils. There will be difficult choices ahead, but what a privilege it is to witness so much God-given talent within our small school community.
We cannot wait to see the next generation of stars shine through. 🧡
