Today is National Coming Out Day.

Whether you're out to everyone, a few trusted people, or still deciding if and when to share your identity, your journey is your own and it is valid.

We celebrate the courage of those who come out and support everyone who is not yet ready or chooses not to. You belong, exactly as you are.

Our friends, the Iris Prize Festival, return to Cardiff from 12-18 October 2026.

Celebrating its landmark 20th edition with a week of outstanding LGBTQ+ cinema, special guests, filmmaker Q&As, industry conversations, community events and, of course, a few legendary Iris parties. Born in Cardiff and loved around the world, Iris brings together filmmakers and audiences to celebrate the power of storytelling, with international feature films, award-winning shorts and the prestigious £40,000 Iris Prize, the world's largest short film prize.

The festival programme includes a star-studded Opening Night, talent packed Industry Day, a whole Best British Day dedicated to LGBTQ+ film happening right here, a special Iris20 Celebration with BAFTA Cymru, and of course the announcement of this year's Iris Prize winner. In addition to over 100 short films. we’ve got 16 epic feature films, including archive screenings of Weekend & Desert Hearts (with the directors in town too) as well as brand new Blue Film, Le***an Lines and Black Church Bay, starring Joe Locke. Alongside the screenings, audiences can meet filmmakers from around the world. If you can't make it to Cardiff, Iris Online will bring a selection of festival films to audiences across the UK from 13-31 October. Tickets and festival passes are on sale now.

Why do we even need pride events?

We’re often asked this question. With LGBTQ+ people facing growing attacks, there’s never been a more important time to remind ourselves just why pride is important.

1. People are still attacked because of their real or perceived sexual orientation and gender identity
2. Prides are an opportunity to challenge homophobic and transphobic legislation
3. Rights can never be taken for granted
4. Prides contribute to changing hearts and minds
5. Prides are empowering

Bisexuality has always existed but is often invisible. Bi people are seen as gay or straight depending on who they’re in a relationship with.

Bisexuality Awareness Week highlights the experiences of bi people for a more inclusive future.

EPOA condemns the latest crackdown on civil society and LGBTI+ organisations in Türkiye.

Last night, close to 200 LGBTI+ activists were arrested during overnight raids in several cities across Türkiye. The arrests come amid a wider crackdown on our community, with websites and social media accounts belonging to LGBTI+ organisations, activists and human rights defenders also being blocked.

Our member ÜniKuir is among those affected. We are in close contact and continue to monitor the situation and report on developments.

EPOA condemns these raids, arrests and acts of censorship, and stands in solidarity with ÜniKuir and the wider LGBTI+ community in Türkiye.

Attempts to silence civil society and restrict freedom of expression cannot go unanswered. We call on European institutions and governments to take action and use all available diplomatic channels to pressure Türkiye to reverse these measures.
