Tiny new arrivals at Hemsley! ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’

Weโ€™re excited to share the birth of twin black-tailed marmosets, who are now just over a week old and doing brilliantly alongside the rest of the family group.
Their arrival means we are now home to TEN black-tailed marmosets - the largest group of this species in human care anywhere in the world.

This is an important milestone for the species, and we hope that in the near future weโ€™ll be in a position to help establish new breeding pairs with other zoological collections globally, supporting the long-term future of these incredible primates.

Keep an eye on our socials for more updates as the twins continue to grow! ๐ŸŒฟ

๐ŸŒ Itโ€™s World Binturong Day! ๐Ÿป๐Ÿฟ

Meet Raja & Ratu, our Javan binturongs who joined us a few years ago and have been stealing hearts ever since! โค๏ธ

Did you know binturongs are also called bearcats or even popcorn bears because they smell like freshly popped popcorn? ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ‘€

These incredible animals are found across parts of Asia and are one of only TWO carnivores with a prehensile tail - perfect for climbing through the trees ๐ŸŒณ Despite this, fruit actually makes up most of their diet! ๐Ÿ‰

Sadly, binturong populations have declined by around 30% in the last 30 years due to habitat destruction, the illegal wildlife trade, and exploitation linked to Kopi Luwak (civet coffee).

By learning more about species like the binturong, we can all play a part in helping protect wildlife and the forests they call home ๐ŸŒฟ
