I can't believe I made this!

As a birthday present last month my family treated me to one of Linda from Beastie Assemblage workshops. She is a great teacher; very talented and patient.

Workshops and courses are a great opportunity to learn a new craft, built on skills you already have, switch off from what's going in life and having fun.

I totally understand that there can be nerves and excitement around going on a workshop.

You've spent money to try out a new craft, will it be worth it?

Will I be able to do it?

Will I like what I've made at the end of the workshop?

I understand these things because I've been there. I run friendly workshops. I'm happy to answer questions (even the same question mutiple times). I talk you through the process step by step going at your speed. I help you turn your creativity into a great leather product.

I also have a thing about making sure my students finishing their items. I've been on courses where I've not finished what I'm making and it never gets finished at home.

I currently have a few workshops coming up.

A pocket Journal - 2nd Oct at The Old Barn, near Edinburgh

A hand-tooling workshop - date to TBC at Birkhill House

Bringing Colour to Leatherwork - 7th -9th Oct at Higham Hall, near Bassenthwaite

If you're interested in any of them send me a DM and I'll give you more information.

It's great being creative and trying something new.

Last week I ran a party workshop at Birkhill House CIC.

It was a party of 4 and the ages ranged from 17 - 20. They picked up hand-stitching leather very quickly and understood the process.

They all made great bespoke belts.

If you and a group of your friends would like to book a leatherwork party group workshop get in touch with myself or Lara Armitage

Today, we went on a lovely family walk. It started very relaxed and then we missed the views from the top of the hills.

So, the steep climb started!

The views were amazing, and the heather and harebells were out in flower.

The walk was a bit longer than planned at 9 miles! I'm tired now but it was definitely worth it.

I hope you're all having a good weekend.

I've been a bit busy the last few weeks working on a wholesale order for Aero Leather Clothing .

I enjoy the labeling stage as I get to see what I've made all laid out.

I have been making their belts and wallets for over 8 years now. They're great people to work with and I always enjoy dropping off their orders in person as they're not far from my studio.

I'm loving my newist tool. I have wanted a smallish anvil for a few years but never quite got to the point of buying one.

- Us makers usually have long lists of products we want to make and tools we want to own -

I had a commission that required me to restore a much loved bus conductors bag. It had been made using copper saddler rivets and hand-stitching. I needed an anvil to give me a firm base to hammer on, to put the rivets together firmly.

Don't be fooled by the size, it's still weighs 4.5kg.

I'm now thinking of future products where I can use copper saddler rivets

Do you find when you go on holiday the knives in your accommodation are blunt so you can't cook how you want to?

One of my customers found a way round this by using a folding chef knife.

He asked me to make a nice pouch for the knife to fit into, so he can safely keep it in his bag.

All hand-stitched and made from British tanned leather.

Thank you Georgia and Sue who are looking after the Art at Ancrum stall for King Charle's visit to Jedburgh.

Some of my leather goods will be on display.

❤️💙 We are excited to announce that representatives from our volunteer committee for Art at Ancrum will meet his Majesty The King, during his visit to the upcoming Jethart Callant's Festival this week.

We're proud to represent our arts community, and to showcase a small range of some of our participating artists' work at this special occasion.

You will be able to find us at the stalls next to the Bandstand in Jedburgh on Thursday 2nd July, alongside the award winning Fine Feathers Fine Feathers

It's a wonderful opportunity to promote our art event and to celebrate our local community, creativity and the arts! 🇬🇧🎨🖼

A different type of behind the scenes photo.

It was such a hot day today I decided to take my workshop outside and did my hand-tooling in the shade in my garden.

It was lovely being outside around nature. It was great seeing the birds enjoying our pool on such a hot day.

I hope you've all managed to keep cool.
