Meet Our Founder and Conductor – Robert Marshall
Robert has enjoyed a distinguished career as a conductor, choir trainer and singer, working with some of Scotland’s leading orchestras, choirs and opera companies, including the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Edinburgh Royal Choral Union, Glasgow Chamber Choir and Edinburgh Grand Opera.
Many of you will also know Robert as the Artistic Director and CEO of the Borders Music Festival, which is quickly becoming one of Scotland’s most exciting cultural events. Recently described by The Scotsman as “someone – and a festival – to watch”, Robert is passionate about championing local talent, bringing world-class musicians to the Borders, and creating opportunities for young people to engage with music.
Under Robert’s leadership, our choir has gone from strength to strength. We are now recognised not only across the Borders, but increasingly throughout Scotland, for the quality of our singing and performances.
Robert is also leading the inspiring Tweed River Singers community project, bringing together singers from Kelso and Galashiels to perform the world premiere of Watercolours – a beautiful new work by composer Ross Milligan, inspired by the River Tweed.
We are incredibly fortunate to have such an inspiring musician, educator and leader at the heart of our choir, and we’re proud to continue growing and flourishing under his direction.
