Some of my early followers may remember my first tenancy at Cedar Farm. The proud inhabitant of the Story Shed, near the children's playground, I was regularly visited by chickens, goats, and story loving families. Sadly, Covid made the shed unviable, but eventually, I progressed to a tiny office in the Barn and then to my current shop above the food hall - Wild about Story Books.

It took me a long time to find my business name, Wild about Story, but it was worth waiting for. I really AM wild about stories and storytelling, written, told, and sung. I've always wanted to grow a community of story listeners and tellers (adults as well as children). I started in the shed, and it was very hard when it all had to stop.

So now, after 3 years of establishing a bookshop at Cedar Farm, I'm getting ready to offer more events, including re-launching storytelling workshops. This Sunday's Workshop with Tim Ralphs is part of that. Tim and I have been cooking up course ideas for years, so I'm excited to finally have him come to teach at Cedar Farm.

in The Hive at Cedar Farm, Mawdesley, Lancashire, Professional Storyteller, Tim Ralphs will be running a workshop about how to tell a story well.

If you live beyond Lancashire, is a Tourism Award winning community of small creative businesses. We are in a lovely rural location, 10 mins from the M6 at junction 26. There are artist studios, a range of other shops, a children's playground and plenty of parking.

Join Professional Storyteller, Tim Ralphs for a one day workshop.

Storytelling, alive, in the moment, unscripted, is the art of making decisions. What words to say? How to say them? What gestures to make?

An award winning Storyteller, Tim will be offering a workshop in which he explores exercises to build rapport with the audience, to make stories more vivid and help with the tricky task of preparing and learning a tale.

It has been a few years since our last collaboration with Professional Storyteller, Tim Ralphs – some may remember ‘A Storyteller’s Bookclub’, regular online events during Covid which Tim chaired with a wonderful, bookish panache.  So when Tim said “I’m doing a performance in Blackburn in May, can I drop in to Cedar Farm on the way home?”, I said, “Yes, and please can you run a workshop”.

If you’d like more information about the workshop, visit wildaboutstory.co.uk. It could be a unique and stimulating start to your storytelling journey or nourish your existing skills for engaging confidently with an audience. It will run on Sunday 17th May from 10.30am until 3.30pm in The Hive (upstairs in The Barn) in Lancashire. If you are coming from further afield, Cedar Farm is an award winning visitor destination in rural Lancashire, housing a community of small creative businesses.  We have artist studios, a coffee shop, eateries and plenty of parking. And of course, Wild about Story Bookshop!

I feel like showing off today - Wild about Story Books is featured in April's edition of Lancashire Life. Book Club, on page 202, is one of a series by local author Lisa Nicholas, featuring independent bookshops and a review of a newly published book. This feels a very grown-up way to celebrate recently turning 3 years old. A big thank you to our customers who support by choosing to shop locally from independent businesses.

Cedar Farm is also mentioned this month in 'A life with less waste', showcasing the inspiring and in the Arts & Culture feature, 'The North Ingrained', about Richard Wood who is currently exhibiting in Cedar Farm's food hall. I also can't resist a shout out to (who runs workshops at Cedar Farm), her Luxury Baking workshops are on the list of recommended days out in Lancashire.

My favourite kind of book as a child were books about animals, particularly horses.  I read 'I rode a winner' by Christina Pullein-Thompson over and over and I loved Pippi Longstocking, whose horse lived in the house with her.  So I'm really happy to stock the gorgeous Willow Farm series by Nosy Crow. Our half term offer in Wild about Story books is to buy two Willow Farm books and get a third half price.  Thank you to Iyana, a young customer, for telling me about these books - she has read the whole series!

Do rabbits laugh? I'm not sure they do because when I read Victor the rabbit some jokes, his face stayed the same, and he didn't even squeak.

If you're lucky enough to be going to one of small animal experiences this half term, then you might meet Victor. The sessions are full now, but you can still visit Cedar Farm's animals outside and feed them (food is available to buy from The Gallery). Try telling any of the animals a joke and please let me know in the bookshop if you succeed in making them laugh!

Victor, from , visited Wild about Story Books so that he could check books about animals. He stayed just long enough for me to read him some animal jokes. So if you visit Cedar Farm's animals, come up to the bookshop afterwards to find a story (or jokes) about your favourite animal. There's an offer of buy two, get one half price on Nosy Crow's excellent Willow Farm series, recommended to us by a special young customer.
