Is it that time already?? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

10th August marks the day we became the proud owners of Jolly and started the most incredible journey we have ever been on! We started in Sharpness Marina where Jolly had been sat at berth for almost a year dreaming of being back in open waters, we fettled away getting her engine running again and clearing away the tsunami of trash that was left aboard her and off we went!

We endured wind, storms, beaming sun, torrential rain, snow, ice and everything in-between but the smiles never faded! Having the opportunity to travel by boat and explore endless new places is something I could recommend to almost anybody. Of course not a lifestyle for everyone but one that is definitely worth visiting because you never know what you might find along the way ๐Ÿง

So what's in store for year 2? Stay tuned and find out ๐Ÿ˜‰โ˜ ๏ธ

Drought update: temporary suspension of the 14-day movement requirement

The ongoing drought is putting increasing pressure on our canals and rivers, and weโ€™re taking a range of steps to conserve water and protect navigation where we can.

As part of this, weโ€™ve temporarily suspended the requirement for boats without a home mooring to move at least every 14 days. The change takes effect immediately and will remain in place until 31 August 2026, although we will keep the position under review if drought conditions continue.

Weโ€™re not asking people to stop boating. Where routes remain open and local conditions allow, you can continue cruising and accessing essential facilities. This temporary change simply means you do not need to make any non-essential journeys.

The suspension applies only to the 14-day requirement. Time limits at short-stay moorings, water points and other facilities remain in force, helping to ensure these spaces remain available for everyone who needs them.

For the latest restrictions and closures, please sign up for email alerts via our Notices and stoppages page. You can also find further information in our drought FAQs.

If you notice unusually low water levels, please let us know using our online contact form.

If you have a disability, access needs, or are otherwise experiencing difficulties because of drought-related restrictions, please contact us on [email protected] or 0303 040 4040 so we can understand your circumstances and try to help.

We know many of you are already adapting your plans because of the challenging conditions, and weโ€™re grateful for the patience and support the boating community continues to show.

Best wishes,

Canal & River Trust boating team

(Antics will return soon, apologies about the major delay!)

A massive well done to the volunteers along the flight over the last few days! They've been enduring this blistering heat to keep the boats in motion and doing a grand job ๐Ÿ‘Œ

I've been busy fettling away on Jolly preparing a few areas for some paint finally! It's about time we got to work removing a few scuffs and getting her shiny again so look forward to a few more renovation videos in the near future!

Also a massive thank you for all the towpath support we've had recently! It feels like we're still at the beginning of a never ending adventure and meeting faces along the canal that take enjoyment from following our journey really makes it all worthwhile ๐Ÿ˜Š

Have a good weekend everyone, don't get too sunburnt โ˜ ๏ธ

We spent a night next to the absolutely GORGEOUS Dundas Aqueduct which we have decided will defo be a spot for future stop overs.

Its a gorgeous area so if your looking for a particularly scenic escape then perhaps hire a day boat from Bradford on Avon and head upstream, just be cautious of the time! Unsurprisingly it's a very busy section of the K&A especially for hires!

Some other boats ended up waiting for several hours just to get through the bottlenecked BoA lock! We gave one boat a tow and made some new friends in the process before helping the slightly overwhelmed luckiest to manage the giant traffic jam!

Always an interesting cruise aboard JR! โ˜ ๏ธ

In todays video, we're back off the Avon and back up the deep lock! Much scarier heading upstream in my opinion ๐Ÿ˜…

We're also thinking of making a few 'spin-off' videos about lock etiquette, swing bridges, facilities and other boaty things aiming to be a little more informative for those curious ๐Ÿค” So if there is any specific areas of boat life your eager to know more about make sure to either drop a comment or send us a message to let us know what you want to see!

See you on the cut โ˜ ๏ธ

Enjoy a peaceful cruise down the Avon with us! It's much more peaceful on the rivers.. less boats, less gongoozlers, less noise. After a long day this might be the perfect video to wind down to ๐Ÿ˜‡

Stay tuned for more!

A few snapshots from today ๐Ÿ˜ Eagle eyed viewers will notice we're finally down the flight! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ We also had a very curious Robin that hung out with us most of the evening. It even disappeared onboard Jolly at one point and took itself for a tour! ๐Ÿ˜…

Bath/Bristol bound finally! Video coming soon ๐Ÿ˜‰โ˜ ๏ธ
