Glenrothan – Film (12A)

Date and time: Sun 21st June at 7:00pm

2026 (UK) (Comedy, Drama)
Director: Brian Cox Starring: Brian Cox, Alan Cu***ng, John Ritchie, Brad Hughes, Saul Davidson

Brian Cox’s directorial debut, Glenrothan, is a warm, sentimental Scottish comedy-drama written by David Ashton. Though occasionally overly cosy, the film succeeds through its emotional sincerity and striking Highland scenery. Cox stars as Sandy, the stern head of a successful family whisky distillery, still haunted by his harsh father. Facing ill health, Sandy invites his estranged brother Donal, played by Alan Cu***ng, back from Chicago after decades apart. Donal, once the rebellious sibling who fled family tensions, returns with his daughter and granddaughter while struggling financially. Old wounds, lost relationships and questions about the distillery’s future resurface. Gentle humour and touching details, including preserved childhood memories and whisky rivalries, give the film considerable charm and emotional warmth. (1h 37 mins)

Michael – Film – 12A

Dates and times: Sun 7th June at 7:00pm and Sat 13th June at 7:45pm

2026 (UK, USA) (Biography, Drama, History, Music)
Director: Antoine Fuqua Starring: Jaafar Jackson, Juliano Valdi, Colman Domingo, Jayden Harville, Jaylen Lyndon Hunter

Member’s Choice:
Michael Jackson remains one of pop culture’s most fascinating and contradictory figures nearly two decades after his death. This new biopic traces his rise from the Jackson 5 to the height of his 1980s fame, ending around the Bad tour. While praised for its electrifying musical performances and Jaafar Jackson’s uncanny portrayal of his uncle, the film struggles to offer deeper insight into Jackson’s troubled inner life. It touches on his abusive father, overwhelming fame, and artistic brilliance, but avoids fully confronting the controversies and psychological complexities surrounding him. Despite criticism and allegations explored in Leaving Neverland, Jackson’s influence on modern music and enduring popularity remain undeniable, leaving him an enigmatic figure whose true self may never be fully understood. Nevertheless, the film includes outstanding music and performances, recreating iconic songs and moments from Thriller, Beat It, and Billie Jean, with impressive energy and detail. (2h 7 mins)

No Ordinary Heist (Film) - 15
Date and time: Fri 29th May at 7:45pm

2026 (UK, USA, Ireland) (Crime, Drama, Thriller)
Director: Colin McIvor Starring: Eddie Marsan, Donal O’Hanlon, Éanna Hardwicke, Desmond Eastwood, J.B. Moore

No Ordinary Heist is a crime thriller based on the real 2004 Northern Bank robbery in Belfast. The story follows two ordinary bank employees who are forced into committing a massive heist after criminals kidnap their families and threaten their lives. As they navigate fear, mistrust, and moral dilemmas, the film focuses less on flashy crime and more on the human pressure behind the robbery.
The film builds tension through authenticity. It focuses on psychological strain and moral conflict rather than spectacle. Performances by Eddie Marsan and Éanna Hardwicke add depth, while its grounded, restrained style and focus on ordinary people create a believable and emotionally engaging heist story. (1h 39 mins)

Date and time: Sat 16th May at 7:45pm
2026 (Poland, UK) (Crime, Drama, Thriller)
Director: Jan Komasa Starring: Stephen Graham, Andrea Riseborough, Anson Boon, Kit Rakusen

He awakens chained in the basement of a remote suburban home, terrified despite his own brutality. There he meets a disturbing family: Chris, a polished yet sinister patriarch, Kathryn, his ghostlike wife, and their young son, Jonathan. Determined to “reform” him, they subject Tommy to a cruel, manipulative rehabilitation filled with psychological torment and physical control.
