The Deeping’s School of Dancing is the longest running dance school in the Deepings area. Around that time, both Gwen and Stella ran three dance schools, one based in Stamford, one in Market Deeping and one in Yaxley. Gwen in her earlier years, trained at the Legat School of dance and danced professionally all around the UK alongside stage greats in the variety theatre and also performed with ENSA
during the war years. Her last show performance was in Mother Goose at the Embassy Theatre in Peterborough. In the early 80’s, a London based Show Choreographer (Tonight’s the Night) and Dance Principal, Marina Palmer, recently sold her big London dance school and moved to the area. Around this time, Marina was approached by Gwen to come teach at the Deeping’s school of dancing. In 1985, after 30 years of running The Deeping’s School of Dancing located at The Green School in Market Deeping, Gwen was coming to a retirement age and decided to hang up her dancing shoes and passed the dance school to Marina. For the past 30+years Marina has built such an outstanding reputation for the dance school. Her kind and supportive nature has seen her pupils flourish in technique and confidence. Some of her pupils went on to the Corona, Peggy 0`Farrell and the Italia Conti Stage Schools appearing in films and shows alongside the likes of Ken Dodd and his 'Diddy Men', Sir Cliff Richard in 'Summer Holiday' and Tommy Steele in the stage show 'Half a Sixpence’. Over the years our beloved dance school has helped shape and build our community. For 65 years and counting, DSOD has been involved in numerous local fetes, has shaped the Deeping’s Arts Festival and has been involved in a number of charity works. Recently in 2020, after a fabulous 35 years being the Principal of The Deeping’s School of Dancing, Marina takes a step back as principal still teaching her Adult Tuesday Classes while her Granddaughter Jessica McBride steps in as Principal. Trained in I.D.T.A, R.A.D, I.S.T.D and qualified at degree level in Dance, Jess and her team Lisa, Sarah & Emma run our DSOD children’s Saturday classes ranging from Ballet, American Tap, Acrobatics, Modern Jazz and Contemporary.
