Hulda Guzmán: Focus on the studio.

The biodiverse environment of the artist’s home in the rainforest mountains of Samaná in the Dominican Republic deeply shapes Guzmán’s visual language.

Guzmán says, ‘My practice is deeply immersed in nature. My studio designed by my father, architect Eddy Guzmán, overlooks the surrounding landscape that I most often paint from direct observation. It’s my favourite way of painting because it’s like a meditation. It slows everything down and thoughts begin to subside, as it requires full attention to intently observe all the intricate textures, the colours, the calligraphies in the landscape, and the way light keeps shifting throughout the day.’

How does your garden sound? 🌿🔊

As part of our opening day events for 'Hulda Guzmán: Please awake – asked Nature kindly', multidisciplinary artist, composer and gardener Rosie Carr led Nature Loops—a playful, sonic workshop exploring experimental instrument-making using natural and reclaimed materials.

Participants' instruments and sounds, layered with ambient field recordings and gentle synth textures, became part of an evolving sound environment.

About the artist:
Rosie's practice spans sculpture, sound, moving image and participatory projects, often exploring ecology, experimental music, DIY technologies and collective making. Through workshops, performances and installations, Carr creates playful environments that encourage audiences to engage with sound, materials and the natural world in unexpected ways.

It’s been just over a week since our new exhibition, ‘Hulda Guzmán: Please awake – asked Nature kindly’ opened to the public.

Thanks to everyone who joined us on opening day.

As well as offering a first look at the exhibition, artist gardener and researcher .carr led ‘Nature Loops’, a workshop using natural and reclaimed materials to make experimental instruments that contributed to an irregular, ambient soundscape, while and DJs brought the good vibes outside on the terrace. ☀️

We also celebrated our 5 millionth visitor, complete with Turner Contemporary cake and confetti. Thanks to all who celebrated with us on the day, and to all of our visitors and repeat-visitors throughout the years.

On view.
David Hockney: Sunley Window 2026

The work captures a sunrise in Normandy with vivid intensity. Made in 2020 while Hockney was based in the region, it reflects a sustained period of close observation in which seasonal change and shifting light became central to his practice.

Working on an iPad, Hockney embraced the medium’s immediacy to capture fleeting variations of colour and luminosity, extending his long-standing exploration of the experience of landscape.

Realised for our Sunley Window, the work '27th April 2020, No. 1’ suffuses the gallery with radiant hues throughout spring and summer.

By day, natural light animates its tonal contrasts; after dark, colour continues to radiate outward—an enduring sunrise that transforms the space.

Since we first opened our doors in 2011, we've welcomed visitors from all over the world—and last Saturday, Augustin (with girlfriend, Julie) became our 5 millionth visitor.

We may have had a cake and confetti cannon ready just in case... 🎂✨

Turner Contemporary would be nothing without the people who visit us—and today, that feels more true than ever. Here's to the next million. 💛
