IT HAS TO BE A DEVELOPMENT!

What development is going to support you to secure a sustainable art practice for years to come?

This is what your application has to highlight.

I’m running a free workshop. ā€˜Secure Ā£12K through DYCP’ - let me walk you through the whole process.

There will be no charge for this workshop.

Comment ME for sign up link.

And share with your friends.

It will be live - Tuesday 16th June 5pm - 6pm on Zoom. I’ll also circulate the recording after.

What I’ll cover:

šŸ’ø What DYCP is really for - and what ā€œstep-changeā€ means

šŸ’ø How to make your idea clear and fundable

šŸ’ø Common mistakes and how to avoid them

šŸ’ø How to use strategy so you feel ready to submit

In this free online workshop, I’ll walk you through the most common mistakes artists and creative practitioners make when applying for Arts Council England’s Develop Your Creative Practice - and how to avoid them.

We’ll talk in simple terms! … what DYCP is really looking for, how to describe your development clearly, and how to make your application easier for an assessor to understand.

This session is for anyone who wants to feel more confident, prepared and strategic before approaching a DYCP application.

Applying for funding can feel confusing and overwhelming - but it doesn’t have to! Let’s break it down together.

Over the past seven years, I’ve supported so many creatives to apply for arts funding. I’m also one of the few artists to have received DYCP funding three times, securing over Ā£32,000 towards the development of my own creative practice. I’ll be sharing the lessons, no messing insights and practical strategies I’ve learnt along the way.

Let’s get you funded!

A week on and we’re still thinking about it!! Let’s get into this review šŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡

We LOVED !! Big congratulations director .parker__ and founders and Mr. king Benson !

Love. At. First. Sight

Here are our post reflections - let us know in the comments if you agree?!

What worked… šŸ‘

1) Sense of space !! Scanabillty - but also being able to stand back and take in the works !

2) The dedicated artist spaces - these gave a real energy to fair ! It was a nod towards inclusivity, honouring creativity before gallery representation and added an area to discover on the other top corner of the fair. Loved work.

3) As always we loved the Discoveries - big shout out to .thinking.eastern.europe and WSG artists

Things to work on… šŸ¤”

1) The interactive space was fun! And I saw lots of collectors during the afternoon wandering up here and playing with the photoshoot - add some more ā€˜experiences’ like this. Everyone wants to have fun breathing space from the stands. It was also a great way to meet people and have a shared micro-experience. Community counts right now.

2) The talks programme was well curated - lots of big names and who’s who of photography - let’s get some emerging voices in there too. And consider making the talks 40mins rather than an hour to keep them upbeat and dynamic.

3) Give the student winners a dedicated space - not just digital screens hidden behind a seating area. Made the prize feel a bit too ā€˜tokenistic’.
Ps. A big wahooo to WSG artist and student winner .psd !!!

See you next year ā¤ļø

It’s May accountability challenge!!

Day one and I’m talking my studio desk piles of doom!!!

WSG’ers how did you get on with your day one?

29/04/2026

We’re here to support you and your creative practice …. But ultimately it’s down to you!!!

YOU GOT THIS!!!

Hump day let’s go!!

Life is such a juggle some weeks … tell me honestly how are you fitting an art practice in?

It’s International Women’s Day, so it’s a good moment to share knowledge. And give you an opportunity to share my work with others.

I feel pretty lousy this weekend and I’m not up for a proper ā€œMeanwhile in the Studioā€ roundup - but I have finished something I’ve been working on for far too long - my survey touring exhibition proposal… so I thought I’d mix up this week - and share it instead ā¤ļø

It’s 20 years of work together in one PDF, and it’s taken me 1-2 years to put together! Perfecting captions, dates, sizes, credits...

If you’re trying to get more exhibitions, put a proposal together, or you just want to see what a touring pack looks like, I’m happy to share it.

Or if you’re interested in my work - go ahead look at it, save it .... OR if you know someone who would be interested in seeing this kinda document - please share it.

Comment TOUR and Simon’s set up an automation to email it straight to you. I’ll ask for an email address in your DMs.

Happy IWD - let’s get more efficient with shows - if you’re putting an exhibition together there’s no reason you can’t make it 2 or 3.

Comment TOUR

And see you next week.
