The Hastings Open drew to a close last Sunday on a weekend when many local players would tell you it never rains in Hastings. ๐ง๏ธ Perhaps they are correct; however, the โsea sprayโ was particularly bad on Sunday, saturating the course and everyone on it. ๐ Coupled with the strong winds ๐จ, the event definitely proved a challenge for the 51 mini golfers competing. โณ
The event was well attended by Strokes, with 14 making the journey. ๐
Acesโ Seve Kukielka again took the win ๐, dominating with an outstanding -4 for the tournament. (On a side note, Seve showed that even the best can make mistakes, with a six on hole 14 in round two, giving hope to us all. ๐
)
Local Hastings player Paul Tutt took second place ๐ฅ, winning on a first-hole playoff after playing consistently all day. This pushed
Dragonsโ Philip Sandy into third ๐ฅ, who proved to be the Max Verstappen of minigolf, excelling in the wet conditions. ๐๏ธ๐จ
For Strokes, it proved to be a tough day. However, the togetherness, with Silverbacks joining us, has definitely been evident at the first three events and looks promising for the future ๐ค, with James providing excellent captaincy throughout the weekend.
Andy Exall finished as the top Strokes player, finishing 10th on +6.
Marc Chapman finished 13th on +7, playing well on his first visit to the course and also scoring as a top Strokes player in the Team Shield.
James Teubler finished 14th on +8, finishing as the second Strokes player for the Team Shield and having a great tournament.
Brad Ames finished 17th on +9, contributing as the third scoring Strokes Shield player, gaining the Category 3 silver medal ๐ฅ, and continuing his excellent form.
Matt Dodd finished 19th on +12, with a 36 in the final round to make the top 20. ๐ฏ
Scott Lancley finished 25th on +16, improving each round.
Terry Exall finished 26th on +17, again improving his score each round.
John Sharp finished 28th on +18, having a very consistent tournament with three 42s. ๐ฏ
James Rutherford finished 30th on +19, also improving each round.
Matt Exall battled through the conditions to finish 37th on +25.
Julian Teubler finished 43rd on +29, winning the bronze medal in the Junior category. ๐ฅ
Neil Tann finished 44th on +32, fighting the conditions.
David Humphreys finished 46th on +34, picking up some good aces.
Jacqueline Layton finished 51st on +66 and competed well.
Hastings Adventure Golf management will now look to replenish their supplies of doughnuts ๐ฉ and hot drinks โ, which are probably dangerously low after Sunday.
Thanks to the course for making us feel welcome as always, and to David, Marion, and everyone Hastings Minigolf for their excellent organisation and running of the event. ๐ We look forward to seeing everybody in Margate in a few weeks, where another warm welcome is guaranteed. ๐
Happy travels, and see everyone there! ๐โณ
