Probably due to Marvel only dropping three books last week, there’s a big ol’ load of new releases today.

Comics…

Venom #1 - The beginning of an all-new Venom ongoing series.

Doom: All-in-One - Al Ewing wites a Doom story told entirely in epic double-page splash images.

End of Life vol01 - The new line of Vertigo books have officially started being collected with Kyle Starks’ and Steve Pugh’s madcat effort.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I intend to self publish a few novels. Well, I don’t mess about once I put my energies into something. Over those weeks I’ve been teaching myself about novel formatting and have done the heavy lifting of putting the book and cover together, as well as fine-tuning the story proper.

I gave myself a deadline, you see. It’s my hope to get The Weird and Violent Adventures of Swift Bear & Laxon out for a Halloween day release. Obviously this is all dependent on the turnaround of the printers, but I have my fingers crossed.

Just to reiterate, this is a prose novel, not a graphic novel. It’s a horror/western, choc-full of whip-fast and ultraviolent pulp adventures. I’m calling the approach Splatterpulp.

Here’s the cover and blurb by way of a taster.

The Demon #1 - And similarly the mad and excellent cartoonist, James Harren (Rumble, Ultramega), will be giving Etrigan the Demon an insane makeover.

The Kaiju of OZ - Another Godzilla Monsterpiece Theatre.

I'm self-publishing (Again).

Regulars at the shop will have often come by to find me noodling away in my notepad or tapping away at the laptop, writing this or that story. Over the years some of this work has culminated in the completion not one, but two novels.

I’ve tried shopping them to literary agents, but I don’t seem to be getting any bites. Though they work as stand alone pieces, both of these books share a continuity I call The Superconciousness. I think they’re best and most ambitious things I’ve ever written, so, not being one to see things go to waste, I’m going to be self-publishing them as I did my graphic novels and selling them through the shop.

The first, which I plan to get out before Christmas, is called The Weird and Violent Adventures of Swift Bear & Laxon, a horror-western. It’s a collection of whip-fast pulp stories featuring the titular heroes, that collectively build to a grand saga set against a larger mythos… plus there’s plenty of swearing and monster fighting.

Just to whet your appetite, here’s the teaser blurb for the book…

“They call him Swift Bear. His own people turned their back on him on account of his bein’ some sorta freak of nature, faster than any horse born an’ about the strongest sumbitch I ever seen; prone ta visions of his heathen bear-god, puttin’ him on track of unnatural abominations meanin’ nothin’ but harm. I go by Mark Laxon, previous a no-good cur, but seekin’ redemption I’d partnered with ol’ Swift Bear to roam the land an’ hunt creatures from Satan’s own asshole.”

Watch this space.
