13 years ago our daughter Beth was preparing to go off to university in London to study Stage Management. Her wish before leaving Mansfield for ‘that London’ was to create a musical theatre group with her mum, Shelley. Beth hoped a new and inclusive group would benefit the long tradition of amateur musical theatre in Mansfield. So mum and dad put their hands in their pockets an
d purchased basic sound and lighting equipment to show how serious we all were in this venture. We asked everyone we knew in the local dance schools and other groups if they would be interested in joining us ‘for some fun’ and the group was born.
7 years after we opened, we had people join us and leave us, generally the leavers are young adults who have gone off to university but it is fascinating to see the younger children aspire to the being the bigger ones in the group and get even more opportunity for performing front and centre. It was because of the amount of members we lost that made the company close its doors as there weren't enough people to making a production viable. So we closed our doors and our equipment began to gather dust...
Until now ...
13 years later and we are COMING BACK!! New people, new committee, new companies to raise money for, new everything, but one thing that's not change is our passion for theatre and performance. To observe young children from the age of 5, who are often reluctant to let go of their parents hand at the beginning, grow in confidence and develop a desire to sing, dance and generally have a great time in front of an audience of discerning Mansfield people is extremely rewarding. We believe the skills learned and developed in this activity carry young people into adulthood and beyond and transfer to any workplace you may think of.
