CONCERT UPDATE:
Unfortunately we have had to postpone this Saturday’s concert to SATURDAY 7TH MAY.
This is due to many people testing positive for Covid, including our accompanist and MD! We are very sorry for any inconvenience, but we really hope that you will be able to join us on 7th May for what promises to be a wonderful concert.

If you have tickets already, just bring these along on 7th! And if you want to book them, please visit our website or speak to a choir member.

Singing with MCS for the last time at rehearsal last night (Thursday 3 March) were Erica and Gareth Leyshon. The couple, stalwarts of the choir for over 10 years, are moving back to their roots in South Wales. The energy, talent, and commitment they have brought to Mansfield Choral Society will be greatly missed.

“We have loved all the different types of music we have been able to sing and will really miss the Thursday evening rehearsals. We have made so many good friends over the years,” said Erica.

The Leyshon’s singing journey is not over yet, though, as the couple are hoping to join Ammanford Choral Society when they have completed their move to South Wales.

For those not able to say farewell in person to Erica and Gareth last night they will be in the audience for our “Spring Celebration” concert in April.

Thursday 24 February 2022 - first rehearsal back after the half-term break and thanks as always to Stephen and stand-in MD, the wonderful Alex Thacker.

The great thing about being in a choir is that we all rely on each other and when someone is not there, for whatever reason, they are always missed. Last night was a good rehearsal, very intense and hard work but very enjoyable. The hour- and- a- half just seems to fly by.

The other Alex (Alex Patterson) has written such a thrilling, challenging and inspiring piece, "Exsulate, jubilate" and this new piece of music, specially commissioned by the Mansfield Choral Society will no doubt be a highlight of our forthcoming concert which we are calling “Spring Celebration” – full details on the website: http://www.mansfieldchoral.org.uk/news/next-events/

Just glancing at Alex’s composer notes last night it occurred to me that there will always be a tremendous need for music in our world and in our communities troubled as they are by darkness, unrest, anxiety.

“Hang a shining star upon the highest bough” - Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

There’s a message in this song somewhere about enjoying the here and now. Fact is that troubles are never too far away from us on this planet and the fates are indeed such fickle fellows. It’s sounds like good advice.

These days you can pay a lot of money to escape planet earth for a few minutes but, sadly, you’ll be disappointed if you expected to get close to any stars.

Music has a power to take us to places that space tourism never could. It costs a fiver for the ticket, but music comes to us as a gift.

We are very much looking forward to performing Ellie’s beautiful arrangement of this old favourite at the concert. And lots more wonderful Christmas music (don’t forget audience participation – that means singing!)

What a smashing rehearsal we had tonight! Here’s the full arrangement of ‘Have yourself a Merry little Christmas’ by our MD Ellie Sophie and it’s almost concert-ready!

Good fun at choir practice with only 3 to go before the Christmas concert and special thanks to Alex for standing in for Ellie this week. It was a very productive and really enjoyable rehearsal.

Birthday wishes on the evening go to birthday girl and new Chair Pauline Parkhouse as she starts her term in office. All the very best to Pauline and the team as they take on the task of steering MCS into 2022
