Two of West Africa’s most compelling musical voices join forces in a landmark collaboration.

Malian guitar virtuoso Habib Koité & Bamada and Gambian kora maestro Sura Susso blend soulful vocals, shimmering kora melodies and intricate guitar rhythms in celebration of the griot tradition – a centuries-old practice of preserving and passing down West African history, stories and cultural heritage through music.

Remembering Fela Kuti on what would have been his 88th birthday ❤️

Today we revisit this performance of Water No Get Enemy by Afrobeat ambassador Dele Sosimi, filmed at Felabration 2016 in London. Dele began his career as a keyboardist in Fela Kuti’s own Egypt 80, and continues to carry his musical legacy forward.

Dele headlines our Manchester Felabration event on 28 October – bringing a night of pure Afrobeat energy, celebrating the life, music and legacy of Fela.

Manchester musician, composer and producer John Ellis has been performing and recording for 40 years with his own projects and other artists like Corinne Bailey Rae, Lily Allen, The Cinematic Orchestra, Alabaster Deplume, John Squire, Mica Paris.

Mainly though, John is a pianist beyond compare and a master and exponent of an incredibly diverse range of music, from jazz to soul and reggae.

He returns to our Copper Bar this October for a solo matinee show, where he will be taking our beautiful Steinway Grand out for a spin on a journey throughout his diverse repertoire.
