DIY Theatre Company DIY is an established theatre company of learning-disabled performers, supported by ACE.

Our vision is for a world where performers and arts leaders with learning disabilities are valued as part of the rich diversity of our cultural sector and our society 💜

DIY actors are going to be part of the Photosymbols library! 📸

We took part in a professional photoshoot - and posed for some pictures of our own. 🙌

We also thought about what makes information easier to understand and shared our ideas with their team. 💡

We’re helping make learning disability more visible; and members are directly shaping what ‘accessible’ really means. 💪

The library helps organisations make important documents more inclusive, and now we're part of that movement! ✨

At Gamechangers Emerging Leaders, members develop leadership skills. 💪

Sessions co-led by Gamechangers Established Leaders – who work hard to plan brilliant sessions! 📝

To make this happen, co-leaders…

💙 Meet after each session (while things are fresh!)
💙 Reflect on what went well (to develop and grow)
💙 Ask what members want/need (and adapt to this)
💙 Take ownership of different activities (to suit leadership styles).

We can all learn from these planning tips. 🎓

Sessions include art and drama - but it's more than that. Members use creativity and teamwork to build confidence and grow 🌱

In a really divided world, DIY's Established Gamechangers have been thinking about how creativity can help build a kinder place to live. 🥰

Refugee artists have been introducing DIY's Gamechangers to different kinds of art, and Gamechanger Mike has written a poem about what feeling welcome means to him. 📝

We want to see a world with more brews, more open arms, and more friendship - for everyone. 🌍

They're taking inspiration from songs and stories DIY members made during 2020. 🎶

Huge thanks to those who attended our recent 'Sharing the Space' training at the Lowry! 🥰

We shared our approach to making multi-sensory theatre and workshops - and everyone had a chance to build their own sensory environments. 🎭

It was a great day, and we loved sharing how participatory arts can be made in more inclusive ways. 🌈
