Since the age of 11, my life has basically revolved around music. I went through the same "singer/songwriter" phase that most young musicians do, but eventually, that fell by the wayside as my musical aspirations grew.

A Mystery Solved! A while ago I transcribed a piece played by Alvaro Pierri , from a YouTube video. He didn't announce its title or composer, so I just called it 'An Unknown Piece' on my transcriptions page .However he has finally let the world know what it was .It is called Canciones De Mi Pueblo' and was written by Jose Pierri Sapere.

Secondly :My song album is ................finished! All the tidying up has been done , and so now I am getting Another Place Another Time ready , as regards the booklets and all the info that needs to go on them , then the album will be available as a short CD run, and will be available on CD Baby too.Watch this space

Thirdly:- The US born player of some of my works, Valerie Hartzell is at this moment back in the USA about to give the world premier of my Variations on 'She Moved Through The Fair'.. Also later on this month under her guidance , the Cambridge Guitar Orchestra will be giving the premier of my Dance - Rondo , and in September at the Cambridge Guitar Weekend there will be the premier of my ' Dance Round the Maypole for Guitar Orchestra.

Fourthly;Several works are new to the transcriptions page of my website (www.chrisdumigan.co.uk)as I have been a very busy guy writing out all sorts of interesting pieces from recordings. So go and check the page out!

Fifthly: On November 24th 2017 at the John Alker Hall in Flixton, Manchester there will be a huge, but strictly one - off performance of selections from my two stage musicals, Marilyn and Stag .They will be treated as songs, and will not be acted out by singers in character, but a full band will be used and various combinations of singers to cope with the music's many complexities. This will be a charity gig in aid of Brentwood School, where my daughter Felicity goes, and seeing as how I have not heard this music since they were last staged in 1981, and 1978 respectively , it promised to be a hugely unforgettable night !

Just finished what might be the final recording session, for Another Place Another Time, my second song album! I have not yet however put on an electric solo guitar in Red Light Roses, but am not now sure whether to do it or not as i quite like it without , and one of Tony's friends who promised to come round and have a go at doing one, didn't turn up, and in fact didn't say he wasn't coming , so we sat there waiting for him. Well, he most certainly isn't doing it now! And like I said, I am not now sure it needs it !
So I am having one more final final listen , just to make sure there are no final bits to change , then its on with printing booklets , etc and then the CD. Exciting times ahead!

Have been busy the last few weeks transcribing recordings into notation for 4 people including Gordon Giltrap , Stu Blagden , and two others.Good to keep my 'musical muscles ' in shape , and thank God they are as sharp as ever!

Just spent the afternoon at Tony's recording studio, adding the final touches to 4 tracks , Snowgeese Flying South, You and I , Lovely Teresa and When You Leave. Now there just remains 2 other very small edits on two further tracks , and Mr Sam Spoons to put his electric guitar solo to Red Light Roses. Note to Mr Spoons:- You probably have only a week to do it , or then we will have finished the album , except for your solo!!!

Just finished writing a piece for the Cambridge Guitar Weekend called 'Dance Round the Maypole' set in 6 parts and lasting a few seconds under 5 minutes.

This post will be more for the classical guitarists amongst you, but just to give you any idea: I have 2 books of arrangements of popular songs out with Lathkill and we have been trying to get a third out, as I have a further 120 pieces not yet published, of this sort of material. We picked out a short list of 10 , including an arrangement of Janis Ian's Seventeen ,which works wonderfully well on the classical.ANYWAY !, the copyright for publishing any arrangement is owned by Hal Leonard who have written back to the publisher , and I stress here, WITHOUT actually seeing the arrangement itself and said that they want a fee of $500 to give us permission, to put this one piece in a book, and also, they said BTW , they have all the Beatles copyright too, so any of those I have done would be a further $500 EACH!
So any of you players out there, who wonder why printed music is dying around its ears , might look at this little story , and realise that the copyright owners themselves are manifestly hurrying the whole dying process along by coming up with ridiculous fees that none but the most huge of the publishers can even think of laying down upfront . Sheet music is dead ( or dying)! Long live sheet music. So we are going to look at other pieces , and other less greedy establishments , i guess, but it wont have Seventeen in it , or any Beatles stuff!

Just been down at Tony's recording studio. We are really down to the very final few weeks now before my 2nd song album is utterly finished . We have got a few notes about various balancing and tweaking bits to do in a number of pieces , and I am putting some long - omitted block harmonies to When You Leave .Then the only actual physical recording to be done is the guitar solo in Red Light Roses, and a possible extra bit towards the end of Lovely Teresa, all of which will take a small handful of hours. Then the final final final mix and ....its done !! The album title is named after the leading track and is going to be Another Place, Another Time , and the album cover is also well on the way to being completed. So early spring and it should be finished !

Just received my copies of my newest publications with Trekel / Daminus, my Sonatina for Tuned Percussion and Guitar performed back in 2000/2001 by Craig Ogden and Paul Tanner as Ogden - Tanner. Looks great !

02/11/2016

Just finished arranging the theme from 'The Bridges of Madison County' , a tune called Doe Eyes , and partially written by Clint Eastwood, who starred in the film with Meryl Streep, for solo guitar , on request from a customer.

23/10/2016

Another day in Tony's studio, on the (hopefully|) final mixes of my 2nd song album, and , on Tony's suggestion, a surprising final set of vocal additions to a couple of the Red Light Roses choruses, which I am yet to hear mixed in, and so the jury's out on that one! Also a well needed drum track to Pot Of Gold, perhaps the heaviest track on the album , and now with a blistering drum track throughout, even heavier, and it sounds great! Next time we are into the individual mixing and correcting of the Pot of Gold tracks. Can't wait !

16/10/2016

Just finished my 2 guitar arrangement of the complete six movements of Dolly by Faure (Originally for piano) , a lovely work full of great melodies and harmonies

16/09/2016

I have just finished arranging another set of piano pieces by Lennox Berkeley , the Six Preludes for 2 guitars , following on from my arrangement some years ago of his Five Short Pieces. They are quirky, odd ;little pieces that have a real charm to them , and suit the guitars really well!

12/09/2016

After a brief summer break, Tony and I got back into the studio to continue finishing off the album , going through every song and creating a (Almost) final mix. Yesterday we worked on Hangups which has now got a fabulous mix, and really jumps out of the speakers at you! We also agreed on a new track order to maximise the listener's first experience of the album, and it is now FAR better than the original order. So 2 tracks mixed (or nearly so) 10 to go !!

10/09/2016

Have just heard from D'Oz ( My publishers ) that, having had 4 books of the Grieg Lyric Pieces put in print in my 2 guitar arrangement , he intends to complete the set with all 10 suites ! Yey!
Also I have just completed arranging for 2 guitars Khachaturian's Pictures of Childhood, a 10 movement set of simplish pieces originally for piano

24/08/2016

Just recieved from the publishers ( D'Oz) the fourth book |(in a set of ten ) of my arrangements of the Lyric Pieces by Grieg from piano to 2 guitars ! Yey ! Here's hoping for book 5 soon !
