HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE SANKOFA BIRD?

As Education Director of TAP Project, I have spent years speaking of the richness of African Culture and how to include it in the education of children from all backgrounds.

That's why I am so proud to highlight my first book Sankofa. A story about the mythical bird that flies forward whilst looking backward.
Originating from the Ghanian Adinkra symbol system.

Sankofa is availiable at Sankofa https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1800310986/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_GNTN1M85C4VHDSMQX7Y2

One of the main questions I am asked as an early years educator is, how can I facilitate independent learning in young children.

Itโ€™s a great question and a skill that will reap wonderful results in all aspects of your childโ€™s development. Independence is one of the key life skills we want to empower our children with, both in relation to their actions and their thinking. The book explores some of my tips.

Short but Powerful book. Kindezi the Kongo art of Baby sitting. Too many take aways to count.
One that stood out was this.
"when children are around they must be the focus of attention, be provided for, but children must not be around all the time.
Children should not be taken to visit the sick as they can not be the focus at this time.

Children thrive, grow and demand attention and its natural for them to do so. This point also speaks to how children must learn how to be independent. It's one of the life skills we as parents must impart. Independence comes from confidence and children derive confidence from new and varied experiences. They become secure in their abilities.

This book ultimately talks about the important role each generation of the family structure plays in a child's life.

The wisdom, patience and calm that grandparents provide. The understanding and fun siblings provide, the example of hard work, love and provision parents provide, the advice and encouragement aunties and uncles provide and the sense of belonging a community can provide.

Its a powerhouse of a book in such few pages. Give thanks for the knowledge.
