Can you help us create long lasting furniture for the art space on 29th and 30th October?

Gain experience working with your hands, and give back to the community with artist and architect Shahed Saleem as we repurpose the sculpture he made for Our Longsight Festival into indoor furniture for Longsight Art Space. We will be turning the timber into seating and storage for usage forevermore 🪑

We are looking for helpers 12pm - 4pm on Thursday 29th and 10am - 4pm on Friday 30th October.

If you think you can help, please dm us or email [email protected] with your availability and any relevant information about your skills or experience.

hello hello. This year started on a very happy note for us as we became the recipient of Manchester Cultural Portfolio, and Our Manchester Voluntary Community Sector Funding.

The initiative that started as an experimental project now has wings to fly and we cannot be more proud of our wins. They might be small in the sector but for us they are massive.

In the background, we have been slowly working to build our board and we are happy to announce that a brilliant set of people who have been working in the communities and the sector are with us.

Samina Ali, Elmi Ali, and Jessica El-Mal.

We started small, with very little, and a lot of belief in what Longsight could become. Having people of this calibre choose to build that with us tells us we are heading somewhere good.

Welcome to the board. We are so glad you are here.

About the new Board Members:

🌼 Samina Ali - Chair
An award-winning radio presenter and producer with decades of experience across the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV. Samina’s work spans community consultancy and audience development, including shaping national strategy for the UK’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout among minority communities.

🌸 Elmi Ali - Co-Chair
A writer, director and facilitator whose poetry, fiction and drama have been performed at venues including the Southbank Centre and Contact Manchester. Elmi is an Associate Editor at Scarf Magazine and a member of Manchester’s Inna Voice spoken word collective.

🌻 Jessica El-Mal
A British-Moroccan curator and PhD candidate at Leeds University, whose practice centres on care, ecology and migration. Jessica is co-director of A.MAL Projects, an art and research initiative working between North Africa and Europe, and has exhibited across the UK and Europe including Manchester Museum and MAMA Rotterdam. She runs community arts programmes in nature for people with experience of migration.

Community Arts and Politics Workshops

You’re invited to join these two free workshops as part of a public research project about online climate debates.

We will begin with a relaxed group chat about the kinds of images and posts we see online every day. Then we’ll create artworks together using paint, paper cuts, stencils, markers, and canvas.

No art experience needed. All materials provided.

Thursday 23 April 2026’ & Wednesday 13 May 2026
6 pm - 8 pm
Longsight Art Space
89 Northmoor Road, Lonsight, Manchester, M12 5RT

About the Project: Faces and Threads is a new project transforming research on climate change debates into art co-created with communities. Working with an artist, curator, and working with Longsight Art Space in Manchester and Basement Arts Project in Leeds, the project captures the emotions behind online climate controversies often shaped by social media influencers. Together with marginalised groups frequently targeted by misinformation, the project creates and exhibits an installation that turns complex digital debates into tangible experiences. Local residents are invited to take part in facilitated events, sharing their perspectives and contributing to analysis. Through collaboration, art becomes a space for dialogue, resilience, and community voice.

Funded by the University of Leeds.

*Free ticket link in bio. The tickets are only advertised for gauging the number of participants.

Every Friday, 6-8pm

We are so proud to share that Longsight Art Space has been awarded a Cultural Partnership Grant by Manchester City Council for 2026 to 2029.

This is our first time being part of the portfolio and it means the world to us. Longsight has always been rich in culture. It lives in our languages, our food, our craft, and the way our communities show up for one another every day. This funding gives us the stability to keep building on that and to plan ahead for the first time as an organisation.

Huge congratulations to all the brilliant organisations in this year’s portfolio. We are honoured to be alongside .mcr and all the other incredible organisations doing vital cultural work across this city. Manchester is lucky to have you all.

Thank you to Manchester City Council, to our partners, our volunteers, and most of all to the people of Longsight. This is yours. 🥹🤍

The wind turns twice a year, and for a thousand years it moved whole worlds across the Indian Ocean.

For our second dinner, we’re gathering around that ocean - East Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, South Asia, the Persian Gulf and the people those waters carried here to Longsight.

Come on Tuesday 14th of April for an evening of food, poetry and conversation. Hosted by Elmi Ali, with food from Hadramout, a Yemeni restaurant just off Wilmslow Road, named for the coastline whose sailors travelled those same routes for centuries.

The evening also marks the launch of Words From Where We Live, a community poetry circle meeting here every Friday at Longsight Art Space.

Entry is free, but spaces are limited so if your plans change, please release your ticket on Eventbrite so someone else can join us. Link is in bio^

Come as you are. Dress in blue. 💙

So often, love shows up quietly in the meals we prepare, the tables we set, the care we pour into feeding others.

This Ramadan, we created a space where that love could be returned. An intimate Iftar shared between women of all ages, where no one had to host, cook, or carry - just arrive, be held, and eat together.

We asked a simple question:
Can you remember a dish that felt like love?
And in return, we were given stories, memories, and pieces of people’s hearts: written, drawn, and shared. :’)

25 women. Ages spanning generations.

Thank you to everyone who came, shared, and made the night what it was. 🌼

Special mention to and for being an absolutely amazing host. And a big shoutout to for setting the venue with her ever-inspirational design!

Something is changing on Slade Lane!

Longsight Art Space, Manchester City Council, and Editional Studios have been working together to redesign and reimagine this local garden. New playable graphics have been added, and we are continuing to improve signage across the surrounding area which is all with the aim of giving this spot a new identity and energy.😍

This project sits within the wider Longsight Community Plan, a resident-led framework built through collaboration with local residents and community organisations. It is a bottom-up approach to find solutions to the issues that the people living in the neighbourhood feel most affected by.

Come along to celebrate Eid and to play some fun and exciting garden games! 💚

We will be sharing more updates as the work continues. If you’d like to know more about the Longsight Community Plan and how to get involved, drop us a message.
