Some moments quietly stop you in your tracks.
Today, I met one of my all-time favorite photographers - Paolo Roversi. His work has profoundly moved me for years.
When I was living in New York, running the Image Department at Iconoclast, I had framed a poster from the 2017 Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garçons exhibition at The Met - Paolo’s photograph. Their creative dialogue always felt sacred to me; together they created pure visual poetry.
I had no idea he was at today, let alone holding a signing. I was simply wandering between booths when I came across one of his prints and thought how much I regretted missing his signing a few years ago. Then, as I walked upstairs toward the book section, something drew me to a particular stand. There was a small crowd gathered, and on the table, his latest publication, The Smell of India. I looked up… and there he was, sitting in his chair, surrounded by admirers.
I walked over. We exchanged a few words: admiration met with gratefulness.
I’ve met many remarkable artists, actors, and directors whose work has inspired me in different ways, today simply touched a special chord. And for all of you who make me, us feel and dream, and the reason why I do the work that I do…thank you
